Mambo Jambo
Perez Prado and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do the mambo, do the mambo
Mambo, jambo, mambo jambo
Do the mambo, do the mambo
Mambo jambo, mambo jambo
Do it with someone you really adore
Soon you will find what you waited for
For when you dance while holding you tight
She'll be very happy to do things tonight
Latin american kind of romance
Has to begin with a circular dance
Wonderful rhythm she'll never resist
Here is the part where she'll want to be kissed
The minute that you begin
You'll find it beneath your skin
Like the who do of a voodoo drum
It teaches your heart to beat
Then goes to your head and feet
Like a shaker of jamaican rum
You'll find that at the break of day
You're heart has been flown away
To a land where only lovers dwell
The moment your love is found
The moment your heart is bound
You will request the mambo jambo spell
The minute that you begin
You'll find it beneath your skin
Like the who do of a voodoo drum
It teaches your heart to beat

Then goes to your head and feet
Like a shaker of jamaican rum

The best mambo tune ever!! First heard it as a child while watching The Dick Van Dyke Show, when Laura Petrie dances at a party in her living room. That brass section is off the charts, no pun intended.

My favorite since I was a kid in the 50’s. My mom would take my teen sister and friends to dances around the L.A. area. Prez and band were at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium one night for a dance so my mom and I went in toward the end of the evening. I was mesmerized when this was played and enraptured by the trumpet player! Gotta love YouTube🤗
