3 Libras
Perfect Circle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Threw you the obvious
And you flew with it on your back
A name in your recollection
Down among a million same

Difficult not to feel a little bit
Disappointed and passed over
When I look right through
To see you naked but oblivious
And you don't see me

But I threw you the obvious
Just to see if there's more behind
The eyes of a fallen angel
Eyes of a tragedy

Here I am expecting
Just a little bit too much from the wounded
but I see, see through it all
See through, see you

'Cause I threw you the obvious
to see what occurs behind
the Eyes of a fallen angel
Eyes of a tragedy

Oh well, oh well
Apparently nothing
Apparently nothing at all

You don't, you don't, you don't see me
You don't, you don't, you don't see me
You don't, you don't, you don't see me
You don't, you don't, you don't see me
You don't see me

You don't, you don't
You don't see me at all

Overall Meaning

The song 3 Libras by Perfect Circle revolves around the theme of unrequited love and the feeling of being rejected. The singer throws the obvious signs of interest towards the subject of his affection, hoping to elicit a response but is disappointed when he sees no reciprocity. The metaphor of the fallen angel and the tragedy in the eyes of the subject of his desire alludes to the idea that the person is already wounded by some past experience or trauma, so expecting too much from them may not be realistic.

The opening lines "Threw you the obvious, and you flew with it on your back" depict the singer throwing his feelings towards the subject and the latter seemingly accepting it without acknowledging the depth of it. The line "A name in your recollection down among a million same" points to the idea that the singer is just one among many in the subject's life without any special significance.

As the song progresses, the singer talks about how it is difficult for him to not feel disappointed when he sees the subject oblivious to his feelings. He wonders if there is more to the subject's story, which led to the use of the metaphor of a fallen angel and a tragedy in their eyes.

The song ends with the repeated line "You don't see me" emphasizing the theme of rejection and unrequited love. The overall mood of the song is melancholic, as the singer comes to the realization that his desires will remain unfulfilled.

That's the one

We expect others to see the world as we do.. we see something SO EASY but.. everyone is doing the best they can with THEIR SUBJECTIVE REALITY

We cannot see their circumstances nor how they pattern match the data of this reality. We SHOULD NOT JUDGE

The key point about life is.. make choices.. shit happens. BE REAL ! you will get quality feedback.. generally you get out of life what you put in.. if you are good natured you will win in the end.. but randomness is there to obfuscate the obvious... and to ensure that you MUST CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF !! change only comes from within. Sometimes you are just shit out of luck but you will always be best off if you are genuine and dont kid yourself about your EGO.. ego is not good.. it can drive us, but feed it too much and you are heading towards the dark side.. eg corporate scum (but not all corporates are anywhere near pure evil lol.. there is a reason corporations run the world, most ppl are pretty oblivious to lifes lessons!)

Noone can MAKE you choose to be mad for example.. there is always a better choice just often we can't see it or are afraid of being "not good enough / a failure".. which is actually illogical.. besides if you could be MADE to choose a certain way.. prohibition anyone ? yeah it doesn't work.

Bill & Ted said it best.. whoever wrote the song !

You are right...
You are right where you belong.

The year this album was released my 3 child was born, a boy, my Cody. All three of my children born in the same week of October. Three libras. They keep me balanced. All grown now and living their lives. They carry my light. Praise God.

I used to sing this song to Cody as I rocked and nursed him. The perfect rocking chair rhythm. My milk flowing down his cheeks as my tears rained down on him. I knew his father did not love me and never would.

Is it coincidence Maynard ? how artists some how magically parallel and mirror the lives of the people who look to them, like ravenous dogs, for the emotional energy necessary to forge their way forward in life?

They are all so beautiful now, my children. Their lives, so pleasing to the Lord... I love them all so much.

Your music bookmarks my life Maynard.
Thank you.

This song kept me from killing myself. 2001. I was in the Navy. Lost my mom the year before. My wife was diagnosed with schizophrenia and she was my only rock. And I was losing her too. Slowly before my eyes. This song this whole album was so beautiful and heartbreakingly sad. It made me realize I wasn't alone.

@bb9071

Antonio, wow, thank you for sharing your story. Amazing how music can be so powerful and life changing, isn't it. I am so glad you are still here. You are certainly not alone. I hope life has been kinder to you since that period of time and I wish you well.
