Farther On Down The Road
Peter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time just ain't right, for me and you
'Cause every time I see you, you're out with someone new
So many girls, I can't get near you
But I know someday, I'll be the one you choose

Farther on down the line, you're gonna want my lovin'
You're gonna realize, that I'm your one true love
I'll hang around, and I'll be your friend
I'll wait for you, just tell me where and when
'Cause nobody else, could ever take your place
I know I really love you, by the way my heart aches

Farther on down the line you're gonna want my lovin'
You're gonna realize, that I'm your one true love

Farther on down the line, Farther on down the line
Farther on down the line, Farther on down the line

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Peter's song "Farther On Down The Road" speak of unrequited love and the hope that someday that love will be returned. The singer laments that the timing just isn't right for him and the person he's singing about, as every time he sees her, she's with someone new. He describes her as being so popular that he can't even get close to her, but he remains optimistic that someday she will realize that he is the one she truly loves.

The chorus of the song is particularly poignant, as the singer repeats the phrase "Farther on down the line, you're gonna want my lovin'" multiple times. He believes that eventually, the person he loves will come to realize that he is the one who truly loves her, and that the timing will be right for them to be together. In the meantime, he promises to be her friend and to wait patiently for her to come around.

Overall, the lyrics of the song are a testament to the power of hope and optimism in the face of unrequited love. The singer knows that he may have to wait a long time for the person he loves to realize her feelings for him, but he's willing to do so because he believes that someday, she will come to her senses and choose him.

I played piano with Freddie and did the encores with Freddie and Eric on this tour. There is no way Freddie said Crapton. He loved Eric and appreciated the exposure and respect he got from him. Lewis Stephens

They were blues brothers! Eric's #1 influence was a very Kool dude.! I was talking with Tab Benoit years ago & a fella there told a story about Freddie at a show this guy played at also. The punch had Tab & I, both Lmao!!!
Eric once said about Freddie: "He had a way of forcing you to do your best & he'd just throw you in the deep end. "

Its sounds that way to me on the album. Its a joke I guess, he is being funny.

No, Clapton is NOT a thief -- he promotes the blues and those who started it. He has been meticulous in explaining to people where this music came from, encourages all to check out the originals. . He was instrumental in making sure that a lot of those guys that had gotten ripped off were awarded they royalties they deserved. He had Muddy Waters open for him on a tour, so his fans could get "turned on" to the real thing. And Eric even said that Muddy should have been the headliner...

Well said!! Truth be told!
