Peter Asher's sister (the actress Jane Asher) was dating Paul McCartney (of The Beatles), and so Peter & Gordon recorded several songs written by McCartney, with or without John Lennon. Hits included "Nobody I Know", "True Love Ways" (Buddy Holly), "I Go To Pieces" (Del Shannon) who decided not to record the song himself, and "I Don't Want To See You Again". Their melodic hit "Woman" was written by "Bernard Webb," who was really Paul McCartney. "Woman" was credited to an alias of the title Bernard Webb, which Lennon/McCartney used to see if the song would gain success without their reputation. They had their last hits in 1967 with "Lady Godiva" and "Sunday for Tea".

Asher has continued his career as a recording executive in California and has managed and produced Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs and more.

In April 2006, Peter and Gordon reunited onstage for the first time in 39 years, outside New York City. Paul McCartney heard about the reunion shows, and sent a message to them congratulating them for deciding to reunite.

Gordon Waller went into cardiac arrest on the evening of July 16, 2009 and died early in the morning of July 17, 2009 at a hospital near his home in Ledyard, Connecticut.

The harmonies are amazing. Such a beautiful ballad. Makes me miss my previous wife so much. She died at 49. So very young. She loved this version. I can't listen to it without crying. When I was 7, my mother had a 60's cassette on repeat in the car during that summer (1989). This song was on it and hearing it now after so many years gives me visual pictures of the Isle of Wight where we had a lovely family holiday. It's amazing how music can do that. To a lesser extent, this song also reminds me of the first time I took a liking to a girl in my class. But in this case, our true love parted ways!

Nice version of this song originally sung by Buddy Holly. It is nice and slow and has nice lyrics. I sometimes wonder how much more the late Buddy Holly could have composed hadn't he died in that accident in February 1959. Peter and Gordon did a good version of the song.

I used to sing this to my Cindy Lou in 1981 when she was 25 yrs old & I was 23 yrs old. She died in 2002 at the age of 46 yrs old. I'll always think of her whenever I hear this song, written by Buddy Holly. R.I.P Cindy, I miss you baby.

I'm 62 now. I remember a warm soft southern summer night under the stars with a beautiful young blue-eyed blond. She placed her hand behind my neck and pulled me close to her lips and whispered I Love You. I saw Peter and Gordon live in person when they performed with The Dick Clark Caravan of Stars in Salina,Kansas's Memorial Hall on 7-14-65. Then on 9-28-00 my late husband,a friend of ours and myself flew to Dallas,Texas to see and hear the late Gordon Waller perform at an benefit concert at a nightclub in Dallas,Texas. He even dedicated his and Peter's hit song of Woman in honour of mine and my late husband's 20th anniversary which would be on 12-20-00

A really good cover of Buddy Holly's 1960 classic by Peter and Gordon. This would have been a No.1 if it wasn't for Jackie Trent. No.2 on 20 May 1965 and got to No.14 in the States. Peter & Gordon's version of True Love Ways made it to No.27 in the chart of the year for 1965.

Oh I have to agree with you. I love Cliff's version too, but then I like anything Cliff does. 80 next year and has been relevant for 60 years. P&G loved Cliff as most of our generation did. Reactions to all the work of artists -- whether singers, painters, actors, etc. -- are subjective. No matter how strongly I may feel that a particular work is the best of all, someone else can feel differently and their reaction or opinion is just as legitimate as mine. I love the discussions and comments on You Tube, but we sometimes spend too much time trying to establish that our opinion is more informed or important than someone else's. The versions of this song are different. All are good and we can all have a favorite.
