Peter and John Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Okay everybody, here we go)

We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Now bring us a figgy pudding
(Piggy pudding?)
No, Figgy pudding, it's made with figs (oh sorry)
and bacon (what?)

We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

We won't go until we get some (won't go, won't go)
We won't go until we get some (won't go, won't go)
We won't go until we get some (won't go, won't go, Animal, sit, bad))
So bring some out here

We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

We wish you a Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year

Rest In Peace Mary. I remember seeing them in concert on their last tour. Mary was already sick at the time, and I understand she passed away not too long after. I cry often when I hear this on the radio.

@l0jack

This is still my favorite version of the song which is rarely if ever shown.  I recorded it from a PBS special using my VCR over 15 years ago so it's a little degraded, but at least now it has been digitally preserved.

@genesclean1

I love the little preamble Peter says before the song Light One Candle as the kids come out on stage..It  would be so great  if you could upload that sone with peter's words..That was th epremier performance of the song, and my son was one of the candles (the 2nd one) from Little Red School House Chorus- Mary's school.
His little talk about his wish for the kids and generations is so moving- and it was omitted  by  the last person who added it to youtube.
Also Paul singing saying The Nght Before Christmas to the kids is priceless- I have only seen that on my worn out VHS   copy.

genesclean1 What a great story! I still have the entire show on tape and in fact I was looking at it last week. I just have to get a new analog to digital recording program for my laptop.

I too miss her, may she rest in peace.

There is a little bit of tension in this otherwise pleasant encore to such a wonderful concert. It all starts around 1:25 It looks like Peter doesn't want to look out...
