In 2000, after the disband of the popular Chilean rock band Los Tres, lead vocalist Álvaro Henríquez decided to start a new musical project. Later that same year, along with Camilo Salinas, Nicolás Torres and Pedro Araneda (originally it was Cristián Espiñeira, but later replaced) he formed this new band, named Pettinellis after his mother's lastname.
After participing in a tribute album for Violeta Parra in 2001, they release their first studio album in 2002, that went Gold disc for its sales with singles like "Hospital" and "Ch Bah Puta la Güeá". In 2003 they performed the theme song of the movie "Sexo con Amor", that became one of the most succesful Chilean movies.
In 2004 Nicolás Torres and Camilo Salinas decide to leave the band, fact that led to the definitve disband of Pettinellis. Since then Álvaro Henríquez started a solo career, and Nicolás Torres started to focus on his band Silvestre.
In 2011 they announced to come back with a live show on august 19.
Vas a Ver
Pettinellis Lyrics

Tus palabras me podrán santificar,
y ese pájaro se ríe
de lo que esta allá
es la luz que esta al final
Vas a ver
Si una roca puede hablar,
que me enseñe lo que esperar
Si una roca puede hablar
que me enseñe lo que esperar
Si una roca puede hablar,
que me enseñe lo que esperar
Si una roca puede hablar
The lyrics to Vas a Ver by Pettinellis speak of the struggle to protect oneself from death and loneliness, with the singer acknowledging that it is a dirty job that must be done. The sweetness of the relationship with their loved one is what keeps them going, with their words being able to bring comfort and tranquility, while a laughing bird represents the unknown beyond. The light at the end of the tunnel is referenced, with the distance between the two lovers being measured but something bringing the singer closer to love.
The song speaks of the emotional journey one takes in trying to find peace and happiness, with the acknowledgement that it is not an easy task. The use of metaphors such as the laughing bird and the light at the end of the tunnel reinforce the idea that there are unknown forces at play, and life is full of uncertainties. However, the sweet relationship with the loved one is what gives one the strength to keep going, and in the end, everything will be alright.

Abro un ojo y te veo a ti
I wake up and see you beside me
cierro el otro y me veo a mi
When I close my eyes, I see myself
Your sweetness is what's making me weak
habla de noche y me hace sudar
What you say at night makes me sweat
Protegerse de la muerte y la soledad,
To protect myself from death and loneliness,
es un trabajo sucio que debo tomar
Is a dirty job I have to undertake
Tus palabras me podrán tranquilizar,
Your words can calm me down,
And that bird laughs at what's beyond
Es la luz que esta al final,
It's the light at the end,
Mido distancias entre tú y yo,
I measure the distances between us,
algo mio me acerca al amor
Something in me is bringing me closer to love
Cada metro me aleja mas de ti,
With every step, I move further away from you,
sueño despierto y ya soy feliz
But when I daydream, I'm happy again
I use the 'ice law' to guard against death and loneliness,
Tus palabras me podrán santificar,
Your words can sanctify me,
And that bird laughs at what's beyond
es la luz que esta al final
It's the light at the end,
Vas a ver

Si una roca puede hablar,
If a rock could talk,
que me enseñe lo que esperar
It could teach me what to expect
Si una roca puede hablar
If a rock could talk,
que me enseñe lo que esperar
It could teach me what to expect
Si una roca puede hablar,
If a rock could talk,
que me enseñe lo que esperar
It could teach me what to expect
