The band Phideaux comprises many friends who have known each other since early childhood. Each album is unique in sound and content of adventurous art rock music.
Phideaux creates mysterious and melodic music for the sheer love of it, independently releasing recordings which have been complimented for capturing the essence of classic rock music while remaining modern and distinctive.
They are inspired by mellotrons and flutes and keyboard heavy music but also love dual lead guitar and power chords. Syncopation and tricky time signatures are sometimes utilized but always there is melody to be hummed and riffs to invade your ears and mind. The lyrics tell stories, sometimes clearly, sometimes abstrusely, but always with an intent to spark an image or metaphor.

Phideaux Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's work to be done while your carpet rides
Pressed to the ear – eyes wide blind
On the Hellphone
Wireless snakes are luring you in
Step right up – let Babel begin
On the Hellphone
Do you hear? Anyone here?
The signal is clear…
Near
The call of the Hellphone
We're all on the Hellphone
The call of the Hellphone
We're on the Hellphone
The lyrics of "Hellphone" by Phideaux seem to address the overwhelming invasion of technology into our modern lives. The singer seems to be lost in the maze of wireless communication, and the lyrics warn against how technology is slowly but surely disconnecting us from the real world. The first line "Talk to the wind that passes you by" signifies the need to reconnect with our surroundings, and the fact that there is work to be done which we tend to neglect due to our busy lives. The line "pressed to the ear - eyes wide blind" highlights the distraction and blindness that comes with being glued to our phones. We may be looking ahead, but we are blind to our surroundings.
The second part of the lyrics "Wireless snakes are luring you in" are an interesting metaphor of how technology sometimes traps us, the "snakes" being the wireless signals and luring like the Pied Piper. The reference to Babel is also fascinating; it could represent how, with so many different languages being spoken on social media, a misguided communication can lead us all to confusion, much like the confusion when the Tower of Babel was constructed. The repetition of "On the Hellphone" emphasizes the obsession or addiction that technology has become in our society. In the end, the lyrics seem to leave us with a sense of helplessness, with the line "We're all on the Hellphone".
