He began taking lessons in school when he was a fifth grade student at Lancaster, near Dallas, Texas. His family moved to Tulsa in 1959, where he began to study trumpet both in classes at Bell Junior High School and as a private student of Roger Fenn (3rd trumpet with the Tulsa Philharmonic).
His skill opened doors for performance throughout school, and by the 1970s he was touring and recording with major music acts including Stephen Stills, Leon Russell, Blood, Sweat & Tears, and Joe Cocker, as well as performing classical music with the London Philharmonic orchestra. Along with fame and fortune, Driscoll found himself increasingly involved with illegal drug use. In 1977 he became a Christian, gave up drug usage, and has since turned his musical talents to furthering the Christian faith.
Driscoll is an accomplished pilot, with commercial, instrument and multi engine ratings.
In 1981, Driscoll recorded his first album sharing his new-found Christian beliefs and has recorded 34 more CDs since. He has been affiliated with the ministry of Kenneth Copeland since the early 1980s, playing and singing at many KCM Believers' Conventions. Himself an excellent musician, Driscoll has worked with some of the top session musicians, including Abraham Laboriel, Bill Maxwell, Justo Almario, Greg Mathieson, and others. Between 1999 and 2002, Driscoll recorded several albums that featured the organ playing of the late Billy Preston, "The Fifth Beatle."
Phil Driscoll has had the honor of playing music for several United States presidents, as well as playing for many national events, including the memorial services following the Columbine High School massacre.
Driscoll is also an accomplished, ordained Christian minister teaches about Biblical praise and worship, teaching church musicians how to excel in their work as well as preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost, plundering Hell and populating Heaven.
Phil Driscoll is considered by multitudes to be the "Praise Master General" of Christian life & ministry. He is well respected in Christian circles, particularly for the way he has endured false accusation and persecution for using his gifts & talents to promote Christ, as well as his stand on Biblical principles.

It's 1:26a.m this 4th day of July 2022, in Kampala, Uganda (E.Africa). I am in hospital waiting for my wife to give birth. Felt the leading to look for this song and I am now so encouraged. My wife just lost her mom and yet here I am challenged to give God all the praise, exalting him because He makes all things work together for the good. I am believing God for my wife to receive Strength to give birth in the midst of this contradiction of grief over losing her Mum yesterday and giving life to our 2nd born today. Let the Lord be exalted and magnified in our midst. LORD, I exalt thee, and I shall testify of your faithfulness.

It's 1:30a.m this 5th day of July 2022, and I am back to give God all the praise. My wife gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. The great and faithful God we serve has been very faithful, comforted my wife and gave her strength to give birth in the midst of the loss of her mother. We chose to exalt the Name of the LORD in the midst of the storm. Now, He has turned our mourning into dancing. I exalt thee oh LORD!

My wife eventually gave birth to a bouncing baby boy later that day. Baby and mother are fine, and the little one is already one month old today, the 9th day of August 2022, and in very good health. I kept replaying and worship in this song through out the trying time, and the Lord proved himself faithful. I exalted him, and I continue to exalt Him; He is my hero, and my closest friend. I Exalt Thee !

Yes! Agreed! I was 37 years old back then (going on 73 now), and we had six kids (ranging 2-19). We all used to go to every Phil Driscoll concert we could find near us, in California. We bought albums, and as one of our song leaders in our church, I introduced many songs like this to our members. One reason I loved his music so much, is that trumpet (cornet, actually) was my instrument going through high school. Plus my main love in life has always been singing. Then when I turned my life completely over to Jesus and found someone making music that went straight to my spirit, I wanted to hear as much as I possibly could. Just about a year ago, now, I bought myself a new trumpet...not a hugely great one, but I've been enjoying playing again. One of the songs that Phil used to play a lot was "Blow the Trumpet in Zion." I've been practicing that one again, now. Don't know if I'll ever play in public again, but, hey! Just making music between myself and God is great! Hallelujah! God is good!
