Phillips was a member of the Gateway Quartet and a bellhop before he recorded "Sea of Love". The song was arranged and produced by Eddie Shuler for neighbor George Khoury's label. After three months of work on the arrangement, building up the vocal group and trying out different musicians, the song was ready for release. It sold heavily and was leased to Mercury Records. "Sea of Love" went to # 2 in the U.S. pop charts and spent 14 weeks in the top 40, as well as reaching # 1 on the R&B chart. It sold over two million copies in 1959

Phillips was deprived of a hit in the UK although his version received a considerable amount of airplay on the BBC Light Programme and Radio Luxembourg. However, in the UK "Sea of Love" was covered by British rock n roller Marty Wilde who took it to No. 3 on the pop charts

Your life will be both less and more, as in time you will change in some good ways. Your legitimate suffering will eventually cause you to grow stronger, like endurance training. For example you will reassess what's most important and understand others better.

In the next few years, you will grow to realize your new place in the world. Be good to you and patient with you now as you endure the pain of initial drowning grief, shock, and paradigm shift that begins this long journey. I hope you are a little encouraged that it will get easier to carry with time. May God be with you, strengthen you, and comfort you.

"Home" by Phillip Phillips means more to me than I can tell you. We lost my little sister Feb. 2012. She was 36 years old. She had been watching Idol and mentioned Phillip to me as a good contender. My mom and I flew to North Carolina to see my sister before she was cremated. While in Carolina beach I bought a picture with the word Home written in sand. I fully believed then and now that my sister was now Home with Jesus. Fast forward to Phillip winning American Idol and playing his new song "Home" for the first time. This song warms my heart. Every time I hear this song it makes me cry and takes me back when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 6yrs ago. my husband played this song for me and told me it was going to be okay. I was scared but made me realize how amazing he is and we now been married for 14 yrs and have two great kids and a dog ;)

My mom passed 5 years ago... she loved rock music but I could never get into it and it made it really hard to connect over that stuff. One day I heard this song and I just started humming and singing it throughout the week and she asked me what I was singing so I showed her this song. She instantly loved it as much as I did and I was just so happy that we could share something so small. I miss her so much.

This song popped into my head uninvited this morning after thinking about how much I don't feel right here... and I had a good half-an-hour sob. Had to look up the song and give it a listen and a like. It's beautiful. I struggle with Persistent Depressive Disorder and I've been in a major depressive episode for a few weeks, and this is what I needed. I'm still depressed-- depression doesn't go away from little things like a song. But it did help, even if it brought me pain to think of the lyrics... the song and the cry were cleansing. I have been listing to this song since I was 3 years old. I was so sad whwn I grew up and couldnt find it because I knew it as the oh song, singing it with my mom. I had just recently found it again and I feel closer to my home town than ever before. I moved all the way out to GA when I was 8 and was terribly sad and missed home. I remember when this song came out and it was weird because my hubs and I were moving to his hometown and I didn't want to leave my hometown. I was so homesick I almost couldn't bear the pain of leaving my home. My hubs sister had terminal cancer and we were helping her and her hubs out doing a myriad of different things. I got to know his sister much better and she was an influence on my life. A good one. It's now 9 years later and I can honestly say that I've learned some valuable lessons by living here. My hubs sister died a year and a half after we moved here. I miss her but I made some great memories with her. She taught me how to have love for everyone and I try to do that every day.
