News From Tienanmen
Pidżama Porno Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I try to look at chinese peradise
I hear the news from Tiananmen
They do not know that step by step
They're aproaching the mouth of lion
Everything is gonna collapse
It is not going to work
It's all right
It's all right
Johny is rebel for one day
Mary want to stay with her friend
They're driming about the freedom
Sleeping in the West Berlin
The lyrics to Pidżama Porno's song News From Tiananmen touches on a myriad of themes, from political unrest to cultural differences. The song speaks to the conflict between the Chinese government and its people during the infamous Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. The artist laments, "Whatever happened to my mind, I try to look at Chinese paradise." This speaks to the sense of disillusionment with the ideals of the Chinese government, and the pressure on citizens to embrace these ideals despite the corruption and power imbalances.
The song then shifts focus to the news of the protests at Tiananmen Square, with the artist singing, "I hear the news from Tiananmen, they do not know that step by step, they're approaching the mouth of the lion." This references the bravery of the protesters, who were facing incredible danger in standing up against the government's oppression. Despite their courage, however, the artist muses that "everything is gonna collapse," suggesting a pessimistic view of the ultimate outcome of the protests.
The song also touches on the individualistic desires of society, with lines like "Johnny is a rebel for one day, Mary wants to stay with her friends, they're dreaming about the freedom, sleeping in the West Berlin." Here, the song underscores the notion that while political rebellion may be growing, people also yearn for the ability to make personal choices and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Overall, News From Tiananmen paints a picture of a society entrenched in conflict, with its government asserting control at every turn, and the people pushing back with a desire for their own freedom.
