Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two charting singles and the successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). Guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind the band's peak success with the albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd – The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards. Pink Floyd also composed several film scores.
Following personal tensions, Wright left Pink Floyd in 1979, followed by Waters in 1985. Gilmour and Mason continued as Pink Floyd, rejoined later by Wright. They produced two more albums—A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994)—and toured in support of both before entering a long hiatus. In 2005, all but Barrett reunited for a one-off performance at the global awareness event Live 8. Barrett died in 2006, and Wright in 2008. The last Pink Floyd studio album, The Endless River (2014), was based on unreleased material from the Division Bell recording sessions. In 2022, Gilmour and Mason reformed Pink Floyd to release the song "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" in protest of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
By 2013, Pink Floyd had sold more than 250 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and these albums and Wish You Were Here are among the best-selling albums of all time. Four Pink Floyd albums topped the US Billboard 200, and five topped the UK Album Chart. Pink Floyd's hit singles include "See Emily Play" (1967), "Money" (1973), "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" (1979), "Not Now John" (1983), "On the Turning Away" (1987) and "High Hopes" (1994). They were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008, Pink Floyd were awarded the Polar Music Prize in Sweden for their contribution to modern music.

Yet Another Movie
Pink Floyd Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
One kiss, one single kiss
A face outside the window pane
However did it come to this?
A man who ran, a child who cried
A girl who heard, a voice that lied
The sun that burned a fiery red
The use of force, he was so tough
She'll soon submit, she's had enough
The march of fate, the broken will
Someone is lying very still
He has laughed and he has cried
He has fought and he has died
He's just the same as all the rest
He's not the worst, he's not the best
And still this ceaseless murmuring
The babbling that I brook
The seas of faces, eyes upraised
The empty screen, the vacant look
A man in black on a snow white horse,
A pointless life has run its course,
The red rimmed eyes, the tears still run
As he fades into the setting sun
You're going on that plane to take you where you belong.
But no, I have
You have got to listen to me.
Do you have any idea what you have to look forward to if you stay here?
Nine chances out of ten we both end up in a concentration camp and that
You're only saying these things to make me go.
I'm saying it 'cause it's true. Inside us, we both know we belong in different
Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your life.
But what about us?
But what about us?
But what about us?
Pink Floyd's song "Yet Another Movie" is a reflection on the terrible things people will do to each other for love. The song is centered around the idea of a relationship that has gone sour, with the lines "A man who ran, a child who cried, a girl who heard, a voice that lied" showing the two sides of the relationship's conflict. The use of force is used as a tool of control, and the man is described as being "so tough" that the woman will "soon submit" to his will. The repetition of the phrase "But what about us?" shows that both sides are struggling to find a solution to their conflict.
The line "A man in black on a snow white horse, a pointless life has run its course" is a reference to the movie "The Seventh Seal" directed by Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. In the film, the character Death appears as a man on a white horse wearing a black cloak, who plays chess with a knight who is trying to stave off death. This line fits with the song's theme of mortality and the idea that life is pointless in the face of death.
The song also criticizes the power of authority, with the line "Someone is lying very still" describing the potential loss of life caused by those in power. The song's outro, with the repeated phrase "But what about us?" highlights the sad reality that people will continue to hurt each other in relationships, and that society will continue to be divided by those in power.
