Mon Amour Tokyo
Pizzicato Five Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am so
sad now that
my tears
my tears
MY TEARS
won't stop
since we broke up
I cannot see anything
my eyes
MY EYES
see all black

I should've known you were
that kinda man who will
change his mind all the time
but I believed that you
liked me and only me
that summer day
after we kissed
under the burning sun
and you held me in your arms
all that was just a game mon amour

alone and having nowhere to go
I wander in the streets
so many tears that I can't
see anything

you are unforgettable
that's why my heart is broken
although I must say that
the end of our love, I saw it coming
that summer day
under shooting stars
you whispered
sweet words of love to me
I won't forget mon amour

alone and having nowhere to go
I wander in the streets
so many tears that I can't
see anything

I shoulda known you were that kinda man
who changes his mind all the time
all those beautiful memories
fade out
that summer day
in your arms
I shivered as I dreamt
sweet dreams
adieu mon amour

alone and having nowhere to go
I wander in the streets
so many tears that I can't
see anything

mon amour

Overall Meaning

In Pizzicato Five's song Mon Amour Tokyo, the singer is expressing her sadness and heartbreak after a breakup with her lover. She is so consumed by her emotions that she can't see anything clearly, and her tears won't stop flowing. She admits that she should have known that her lover was fickle and that he would change his mind frequently, but she believed that he loved only her. She reminisces about the summer day when they kissed under the burning sun, and he held her in his arms. However, she now realizes that it was all just a game for him.

The singer wanders the streets alone, with nowhere to go, as she envisions the memories of her love with bittersweet regret. She acknowledges that the end of their relationship was inevitable, and she saw it coming. Even though she is heartbroken, she knows that she will never forget him, as he was unforgettable to her. The song ends with her repeating the words "mon amour," reaffirming her love for Tokyo, a city that served as the backdrop of her love story.

Overall, the song's theme revolves around the pain associated with lost love and coming to terms with it. The singer's emotions are palpable throughout the song, and her vulnerability makes it relatable to many who have experienced heartbreak.

This song is actually called "Mon amour Tokyo" not "Tokyo mon amour." Tokyo mon amour is a whole other (wonderful) P5 song, from the Romantique 96 album. It's all very confusing. To top it off Stereo Total also named their (also wonderful) cover of this song "Tokyo mon amour" for some reason...

@bonosbones oh, cool! Haha. Well, thank you for sharing. And thanks for the croissant recommendation ✌️

bonosbones

Thank you for the info. I made this clip with my mobile and looked for a song that matched the timing and the subject. It happened to be that one. I'm glad I did. Corona makes that nobody knows when we will be able to go again. BTW the croissants and the coffee are delicious in Tokyo Central. (Burdigala Express) 👍🏻

This must be the best cover ever!

If this is a cover, who made the original?

この曲、いしだあゆみさんの太陽は泣いているへのでのオマージュですよね。歌詞もメロディも全てオマージュされてる!すごいです😃🎶
