Ryutaro and Tadashi wanted to combine two words to form the band name; something artificial and something natural. After trying a few combinations, they decided on ‘Plastic Tree’. Formerly, there were rumours floating around the web about the band’s name coming from Fake Plastic Trees but this was always disputed due to timing inconsistencies.
In the beginning, Plastic Tree were influenced greatly by The Cure. There was also a large britrock influence. Plastic Tree played a mix of indie rock, punk, and heavier grunge, characterized by Ryutaro’s generic Visual Kei voice and gloomy lyrics. They went through a period where they played more pop-rock and radio-style rock music, although they have recently returned from lighter music to their original roots.
In July 2006, Plastic Tree embarked on their first world tour that took them to Germany, France and Finland.
On the 23rd of February 2009, Sasabuchi Hiroshi left the band and was later replaced by Satou Kenken..

Plastic Tree Lyrics

The lyrics of Plastic Tree's song 3月5日。 (March 5th) express the feelings of someone who is going through a difficult time and finds solace in writing a letter. The first two lines introduce the theme of pain and suffering, and the following line points out that the only thing the writer can feel is the pain associated with it. The writer compares their situation to that of a bird floating in the sky, even though it may be happy, it carries the weight of its body. The writer wonders if happiness is attainable in the same way, despite the feeling of being weighed down by pain.
The song then shifts to address someone specific, asking if they were to find the writer, would they be able to accept them as they are, even if they were like a diseased plant. The writer expresses their hesitation to show their true self, but ultimately makes it clear that if this person were to love them, they would be able to overcome their pain and sadness and fly with open arms, leaving behind the need for a place to belong. The writer concludes with a question, wondering if the letter they wrote will make it to its intended recipient.
Overall, the song touches on the universal themes of pain, the need for love and acceptance, and the desire to be able to rise above it all.
