1. Playgroup wa… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least three artists known as Playgroup.
1. Playgroup was an experimental post-punk band from London, United Kingdom, on Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound imprint, during the early 1980s. Their lineup included Sherwood, Style Scott (Dub Syndicate), Bruce Smith (ex-Pop Group), Charlie 'Eskimo' Fox, Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, and others from the On-U collective. They released two lp's entitled Epic Sound Battles 1 (1982) and Epic Sound Battles 2 (1983), both later reissued as a single CD. Much in the same vein as their labelmates New Age Steppers, Playgroup's sound employs the dub-based On-U-Sound sound (and uses some of the same riddims), while incorporating jazz, rock and funk, with even some steel drums.
2. Playgroup is electroclash / electro house producer & graphic designer Trevor Jackson (a.k.a. Underdog). Jackson also ran, the now defunct, Output Recordings.
Discography: Make It Happen! (2000), Playgroup (2001, brought diverse influences, inc: funk, disco, hip-hop, electro & dub - creating an album that relies heavily on the past, only to reshape, with such vigour, that it might sound too modern, for its own good), several more releases followed, Reproduction (2004, a remix album) & Front 2 Back (feat. KC Flightt, 2006),
3. Playgroup is also a New York-based project that recorded a 12" single, "Euphoria", for Factory Benelux in 1985. Although associated with the post-punk genre in the mid-1980s they are unrelated to the Adrian Sherwood / On-U Sound band.

I can feel it in my hands
I can taste it in your mouth
I can hear it in my head
Make it happen
Make it happen
I can spell it in your eyes
I can taste it in your mouth
I can hear it in my head
Make it happen
Make it happen
Cocoa pops in the story
And I'm here all alone
Asked for what I'm missing
Drinking words on the telephone
Cocoa pops in the story
And I'm here all alone
Asked for what I'm missing
Drinking words on the telephone
Make it happen
Make it hard
Make it happen
Make it smooth
Make it happen
Make it real
Make it happen
Make it fast
Make it happen
Make it last
Make it happen
Make it feel
Make it happen
Make it real
Make it happen
Make you feel
Make it happen
Make it happen
Make it happen
Make it happen
I can spell it in your eyes
I can feel it in my hands
I can taste it in your mouth
I can hear it in my head
Make it happen
Make it happen
I can spell it in your eyes
I can feel it in my hands
I can taste it in your mouth
I can hear it in my head
Make it happen
Make it happen
Voices in the city
Slowly killing me
Waiting for your lips to move
Those words of make believe
Make it happen
Make it happen
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Move on closer break it up
Make it happen
Make it happen
The lyrics of Playgroup's song "Make it Happen" are a passionate statement urging someone, perhaps a lover or partner, to take action and make their relationship work. The repeated refrain "Make it happen" becomes a mantra for the singer, who can sense a connection with the other person through all their senses. In the first verse, the singer declares that they can spell out the longing and intention in the other person's eyes, feel it through touch, taste their desire, and hear it ringing in their head. The second verse continues in the same vein but adds the image of "Cocoa Pops in the story" to create a sense of nostalgia or longing for a shared past. The bridge introduces the idea of the city and the pressures of daily life, which the singer finds oppressive, but they continue to hold onto hope that their passion can overcome these difficulties.
The repetitive structure of the song reinforces the urgency and determination of the singer, who employs a series of imperatives in the chorus to implore their beloved to act decisively. The commands range from making it hard or smooth, to making it feel real, fast, or last. By the end of the song, they become more urgent and almost desperate, with the repetitions of "Move on closer break it up" suggesting a need for closure or action. Overall, the lyrics of "Make it Happen" convey a passionate plea for connection and intimacy, which is felt through all the senses and requires action to be realized.
