The lesson I got from these abandoned castles is not to accumulate too much stuff. I am guilty of it myself, for many years I was collecting “cute” stuff decors/plates etc. As I got older and wiser with my hard earned money, I realized it takes even more time and energy to take care and store all of them. My goal is to purge stuff that I won’t need. I just buy practical, functional things that are worthy of my time and money. Still, it’s interesting to see what people treasured during their times. It is sad that this place is falling apart and vandalized. Hopefully, the family can agree on what to do asap before it’s too late and beyond repair.

I’m sixty four and I’ve been decorating for decades I finally have it perfect country French chic I have tons of art and others decor lamps vases clothes on my garage and my son sells them for me and let him keep the money he has sold a lot on offer up !!! I don’t ever want to be that person who pays for a storage unit it’s crazy to me unless someone has to move suddenly and needs somewhere to store it till they find another place .

This makes me very sad. I am related to most of the royal British families and nobles, I also I am related to both Belgian and French royalty and nobility. But as you see all that you have showed us money and a castle doesn't bring happiness. And his ancestors disrespecting his home and his memory. It is a horrible ! I had an attorney friend, who told the saddest, yet funny stories about people, wills, and fighting over them. One funny story was about kids arguing over ~ all things, a set of towels!!! He said he sat there calculating his fee, while they argued over a 30.00 set of towels. When my parents died, I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to be a family member who was going to fight about stuff. I got the things I REALLY wanted….my parents wedding bands, all my mums cookbooks/handwritten recipes, and some sheet music my dad used. My mum had passed away first, and my sisters had gone through her jewellery. As we were going through our parents clothing, I found my mums most prized possession ~ a starburst, amber brooch, that she always wore. I quietly took it off the jacket I found it on, put it in my pocket and never said a word to any of my siblings. Lol.

I've noticed in your explorations, that the families of the people who owned those fabulous homes, leave behind the most important things of all, they're family photos!!
I think that the rich and famous people are spoiled rotten, and they don't consider memories of they're family photographs important!
Us, poor people, would risk our lives and rush into a burning house, to save our family photos. A house can be rebuilt, money can be remade, but a photograph is something that you can never go back in time and capture again.
If I were in those homes, I would take every photo and pictures that I would find, before part of the past rots away, with the time.

I don't think how much money you have has any influence on whether you treasure memories and photos. A lot of these places are locked in family disputes and legal action. You cannot remove things, even pictures in that case. In other cases there is no one left.

Yes, I agree with you about the family disputes and legal action, to a certain extent. But if that were me, going through a legal dispute, with my home, and I wasn't allowed entry, then the same way that these YouTube explorer's and also vandals are able to get entry into my house, that is in a legal dispute, then I would do the same, if only to collect all of the photos of our treasure memories. It's not as though, there is a 24 hour Security surveillance system. It's just that the wealthy people, only care about monetary things and since pictures don't have any value, they're content with having their memories fade away.

We don't know if they were "vandals" or other "explorers"! We have to take with the grain of salt what this guy is telling us. What he is doing himself it's illegal! He is breaking in ( through the window!!! because doors are obviously locked) and trespassing on private property! This place is not abandoned but have OWNERS! We don't know real story. These "urban explorers" posting these countless videos, making tons of money (most of them young guys in their 20s who became fast millionaires because of us, watching these videos) while they breaking in to Private Properties! What is sad is a family who only sees the monetary value in the property's contents and not their families historic value. Especially considering many of the items are memories of their own childhood and their parents.

This is why so much of our history is lost over the years. Because greedy descendants cannot agree on how to preserve what is left and are only worried about what they can gain out of it.

I notice a lot of structures get labeled as a "castle" when they're really a mansion or palace. I don't mean to split hairs, I just usually think of castles built in the medieval period used for fortification and protection from attack. Hey Brothers. Always love your videos. Just wanted to comment on a couple of things in the house. One is the blue and white container you called a cigarette holder, it is actually a flower vase. For which kind of flowers I'm unsure but it is to hold flowers. Usually vases such as this were made for a particular flower based on the size of the holes. Some people like to see their flowers standing like soldiers, some would also call it a flower frog. Where frog comes from I don't know. Most frogs are free from the vase and you put it in the vase before the water and flowers. Maybe it's called a frog from it being in the water and most always they are green. Frogs are to hold flowers in position. Ok enough of that. I think the two presses you were looking at in an upstairs bedroom window are flower presses. You would put down a few layers of absorbent type paper then lay flowers in the position you want, put more paper on top and then press them. You could then add more paper, flowers and paper again to press. The flowers need to spend a certain amount of time in the press before you remove them so you could just keep adding layers until it was full. There's a little more to it but that's the basics. My last note would be that there were so many bedrooms and all those beds for when the family gathered together and all the children, cousins, nieces, nephews and of course parents would all have places to rest their heard. I doubt very much that it was a full time, every day situation where that many people lived there. Like you said-there's only two bathrooms for that many people. Everyone saying this serves as a warning against some kind of hoarding… remember this was a large family home, and eventually the sole caretaker became too old to properly maintain it. It’s not like it was just one person storing junk everywhere, it was likely decades worth or family stuff that accrued, and after the person died, it seems the process of sorting through the belongings was halted mid-process almost.

I actually have the ship manifest from when my great grandfather came to the United States from Belgium at age 2. I have my grandfather's draft card from WWII. when he came home through NY city, he bought a ring for my grandmother. I have that receipt! Thank God I have this to pass down to my children. Hello brothers of decay! Your wading thru antiques and collectibles! The video before this one you were in both a 1940-early 1950s Buick & a Sedan Devill I think a 1958. OMG! There are American Collectors who would pay top dollar. In this video your are walking thru an entire antique shop! I’m glad you guys don’t destroy or take anything from your travels. Its rare to see people like you that still have morals.

My partner and I live in the Mid Hudson Valley Region of New York state. When I was young like ten to fifteen years old. My nephew and I used to explore the many abandoned mansions and homes between Beacon, Coldspring, all the way up to President F.D.R. and Vanderbilts
Estates heading thru pleasant valley towards the border of New York and Connecticut There are literally hundreds of old estates to explore.
You can usually get permission to explore the grounds I can’t mention any last names. But its a who’s who of people thru Gilded Age to recent television and Major Movie stars. Houses were abandoned because it costs a fortune to take care of and to pay taxes on all that property. A former friend actually bought me to a lot of these places. Others were pointed out on drives we took through the area.
My friend was a physical therapist, he worked for some of the people, that were owners of these states. I just thought if you ever get to New York again you guys might want to check these places out. I’ve watched a lot of your videos but I haven’t caught either one of your names.
I really enjoy your videos , I’m older now and not in any shape to treck thru old homes…….but hey you never know?

amazing tour of this home. It's sad to see family members fight over who gets the home. I always tell people make sure you leave a will and testament behind. You can call a lawyer and he will set everything up for you for a few hundred dollars. And tell your family what to do with your things in case you pass away. The best advice I could give you. the saddest thing are the personal effects like photographs. It's always good to document all your photographs with the people's names on them. Always keep track of your family tree. you can put them on computer and make a YouTube video about your family members. And all their names and when they were born and when they passed away.

Make sure the original will is kept with your lawyer and not stored in the house. For better protection make the lawyer the executor of the will instead of one of the beneficiaries.

I know when my grandmother passed, there were items I said I liked, so she wrote my name on the back of them, so it would go to grand children, or my mother, aunt, etc.

Isn’t it amazing how long a slate roof will last. I didn’t see any damage to the roof at all and there didn’t appear to be any water damage from leaks and there’s no telling how old the roof is. Amazing

Slate roofs are something else. You can have a house abandoned 50 years, but a slate roof has kept so much water out that the house is still somehow standing. Broken windows do let water in through, so if the windows aren't broken and remain closed, the house can last and last. Wet and termites are the worst enemies.

What I can't understand is why people would break into such a beautiful treasure and destroy it with axes. That just disgusts and angers me this is such a beautiful treasure and such a treasured piece of history that I hope those people get what they deserve.

Absolutely incredible Leslie. So well documented with such tender loving care. It made my stomach upset to see all the damage that it had been done by those kids with the axes. I’m glad you were able to document this place who knows what will happen to it. I hope they can resolve their issues and sell it so somebody can love it again it’s still in pretty good condition to where it would be able to be saved. The antiques in there were incredible! @@abdlmjidbaffo2931 the castle door was always open because homeless people would break in to stay there during the night and then some kids from age 15-18 year old discovered that the could just go in the back door everyone started keeping going there everyday 20 people in different groups would go and chill there and then they found axes there and guns even a skull with a hole in it and they started playing , stealing and destroying but one day the owner came from England and saw bicycles in the front so he locked 2 kids in until police came then police discovered that they had a messenger group to meet there and they got everyone to court but court did nothing just a warning!

The veteran shown in the photo at time 15:18sec is heavily decorated. If wearing full sized medals he would have his entire chest covered with, it looks like 20 medals and the jeweled badge on the left is an insignia of a royal order. This gentleman is a giant of a war hero.

The bed warmer, which hot coals were put into, was not left at the end of the bed. Rather the bed warming pan, was passed all over the sheets under the blankets to warm them up and then removed just prior to entering the bed for a more comfortable night's sleep. Edit: The wallpaper in the dining room appeared to be the same that was used on the Titanic. It is a very special wallpaper that was designed to look like leather which has been indented and specially colored for its amazing beauty. It can still be made (factory in England?) but was very expensive then and even more so now.

That fireplace screen resembles the screens used in southern colonial America . I was told on a tour of an old plantation the screens were used to prevent the wax based makeup from melting.

I don't think so. He is breaking in. Basically he is trespassing. Same criminal as those vandals he talked about. Or it could be other "explorers". It's entertaining for us to watch all these videos posted by countless "urban explorers" (who make tons of money ) of "abandoned" homes, but what they do is illegal. We don't know real story, just what these "explorers" presenting to us. They are making lots of money from YouTube by doing something illegal. I can't stop wonder why it's actually allowed. Just imagine someone would come uninvited to your house, you might left, while decided to live overseas for several years. God knows what these "explorers" taking from these homes, buildings, monasteries, religious places, hotels etc. All these places are not abandoned, but have owners, in many instances Government!

The family should be ashamed of themselves for allowing their “who owns what” attitude. Soon it will be the victim of more vandalism and decay and they won’t get anything.
When you look at all the old family photos, you could never imagine what the future had for this “happy” family.

Your friend told you slightly wrong about the warming pan, yes hot colas were put in it but not for warming feet, the long handle on it was so a person or servant could pass it between the sheets to warm up a cold bed in the winter so that there wasn't the shock of getting into a cold bed, it was not left on or in the bed.

It makes me sad and angry that somebody would feel the need to destroy things and feel good about it and I understand about disputes over ownership of an estate of parents that it can get ugly and sometimes there is no way an agreement can be made. It sounds like parents passed without a will which is very unfortunate. That makes all legal matters so complicated. When our parents passed my brother and I sold everything and split it 50/50. It was very easy because I’m a minimalist so I wasn’t concerned about any items.✝️❤️
