Coffee and Cupcakes

The entire beginning of this video was hard to listen to knowing that Pravin's story was going to end in his demise. His awesome relationship with his family, his personality, his favorite food (beef cutlets), I know it was necessary and it was so well done that I feel like I knew him. But I kept tearing up because of it.

He was just a normal 19 year old that had dreams and aspirations. He knew where he was going and what he wanted out of life.

But when I think about that. I cannot imagine this 19 year old kid who wants to become an officer, jeopardizing his dreams by:

1. Getting so drunk that he wouldn't have been able to get home in time so that he could be ready for the exams the next day.

2. Trying to score illegal drugs

Honestly that whole illegal drugs thing really hits me wrong. He wants to become an OFFICER, which means to me that innately, he wants to be part of the drug SOLUTION and not the problem. He wants to become part of the force that takes drugs off the streets. And using drugs would cause him to risk his ability to ever become a cop in the first place I'm sure. As there are drug tests involved and physical fitness tests as well. I know he was only in college at this point, but these facts would have been on his mind. He wouldn't have wanted to get mixed up in stuff that would only make reaching his goals that much harder, even impossible.

Just from this point having watched this first video, I am getting a strong feeling that Gage saw Pravin and offered him a ride OR Pravin asked him for a ride. And quickly the situation devolved into Gage trying to rob Pravin for drug money. The money on the floorboards tells me either there was a struggle in the car and the money got dropped, or in an attempt to not come to harm Pravin just said "Here, take it." But somehow Gage still wasn't satisfied with either outcome.

Pravin could even have offered to pay for gas because he seems like that kind of person. And Gage would have either tried to force more out of him or accept the money. Jonathan could have even unwillingly given us a clue in this matter. Maybe Pravin, being the type of person he was, said "Hey thanks for the ride, here's some singles for gas." and put it in the middle console. Could Gage, who either planned on robbing him or came to the realization of robbing him upon seeing money, have accidentally knocked the money out of the middle console during a struggle in the car? Or maybe upon realizing that he was in trouble with Gage could Pravin have grabbed the money back knowing that he might now need it to get home. Jonathan said that Pravin 'grabbed the $20-25 out of the middle console and hopped out of the truck and ran' What if the money wasn't stolen, what if it was Pravin's to begin with and Gage wanted to leave the money out of the story because it gave motive?

Gage's face when the money is brought up changes drastically and so does his body language. He is mostly looking down at the ground as hes story telling, with a lot of 'uh's' and 'you know's' thrown in there. A lot of "i don't know's' and consistent "i'm a nice guy', pay attention to the money topic when it comes up. His face changes to almost feigned confusion, he looks up and looks more rigid. There is no fog or hesitancy or even the slightest uncertainty in Gage's mind when it comes to the money being in the picture. He just straight out tells the investigator. "No, there was no money. I had NO money. The guy in my truck DIDN'T SHOW ME money. I had NO IDEA there was money on my floorboards." When pushed further, the money could have come from friends, or who knows?

But the facts are he is a known drug user who was 'jiggling' car handles to check for money for drugs. If he had a single dollar in his vehicle, I feel like he would have known. There probably isn't even a penny to be found in this guy's sofa at home, because anyone who knows someone who has struggled with drugs knows that every cent goes to the habit.

Gage's entire story doesnt make any sense, and is too inconsistent for my liking. I feel so bad for Pravin and his beautiful family. =(

There are MANY things that frustrate me with this case. I think what angers me more is the fact that Pravin had so much respect for law enforcement, he was pursuing a degree in criminal justice, but yet the officers couldn't return that respect for him. They failed him.

Leah Simpson

Similar to the case of Tyler Smith that John Lordan covered recently. The police have been horrible in his case as well and he wanted to be a cop as well. Ridiculous and sad.

Maiya

I agree!

Chelsea Miller

Right!! Pravin would have been one of those amazing cops! The one who stopped when he saw kids playing and go play with them for a little bit, the kind to run into a burning building to save an animal. He wouldnt blow people off, he would take their cries seriously. He would have been a people's cop.

My middle name is spelled Robyn too! I personally don't see this spelling very often

Ange-Pange

So true! I hadn’t thought of that.
