Overall Meaning

In these lyrics, Prince is expressing his deep affection and loyalty towards someone he refers to as "my baby" or "my girl." He emphasizes that this person is not just a casual lover, but someone who will stand by his side till the end. He repeats this sentiment multiple times to emphasize the strength of their connection.

When Prince sings, "Fuck it up, we always fuck it up," he is acknowledging that their relationship is not perfect and they may face challenges or make mistakes. However, he seems to embrace these imperfections and finds excitement in living in the moment and taking risks. The line "Do it on the spot" suggests that they act spontaneously and without hesitation, adding a sense of thrill to their relationship.

Prince describes feeling the intensity of their connection "dripping through his veins" and "pumping through his heart." This imagery suggests that his feelings for this person are intense and deeply heartfelt. He also acknowledges that others may perceive him as "crazy" due to the passion and intensity he feels, but he embraces this label and sees himself as unique. He implies that those who consider him crazy are the ones who may be missing out on the depth and intensity of genuine love.

The repetition of "thats my baby" and "thats my girl" throughout the song further emphasizes Prince's possessiveness and pride in this person. He reiterates that she will ride for him until the end, emphasizing their unwavering loyalty and commitment to each other. This repeated declaration highlights the strength of their bond and their willingness to stick together regardless of the challenges they may face.

Overall, these lyrics convey Prince's deeply passionate and loyal love for someone special in his life. He sees their connection as unique and intense, and he is unapologetic about embracing their imperfections and individuality.

Lyrics:

The greatest romance that's ever been sold

So what do U know, U and me
Finally face 2 face
Checking each other up and down
In all of the obvious places
Was there ever a reason 4 us 2 be apart?
The air that fills up this room says, "not hardly"
So this is where U end, and U and I begin ...
(That's where U and I, U and I begin)
The greatest romance that's ever been sold
The greatest romance that's ever been sold

Baby, baby
Now your mind is open
2 poetry seldom heard
Ur heart has never been broken
Until U've heard these words:
"Your body was designed 2 respond 2 mine
In spite of your desire 2 mold me"
And in the middle of it all -
We kiss and like rain (like rain) we fall into ...

The greatest romance that's ever been sold
The greatest romance that's ever been sold

Oh, I know U can feel me,know that U can dance
But what do you know about the greatest romance?
Not what U think, but what U believe
What was the real reason that Adam never left Eve?
And if the truth sounds like a memory
Then U know it was meant to be (meant 2 be), meant 2 be
Leave your inhibitions behind come on, come on, and see
So this is where U end (this is where U end)
And U and I begin ... (U-hu)

The greatest romance that's ever been sold
The greatest romance that's ever been sold

I know U can feel, I know that U can dance
But what do you know about the greatest romance?
(The greatest romance ...)
Not what U think, but what U believe
Can U tell me the reason (reason) that Adam never left Eve?
(The greatest (greatest) romance (romance) ...)
Listen 2 me
(... that's ever been sold)

U brought me
The grapes from the vine, yes U did
(The greatest romance ...)
Can I talk 2 U
(... that's ever been sold)
Listen
U help me 2 remember the secrets of time
And U - U - U, U offer me your love, your love, your love
So divine
And in return, girl, in return I will surrender
Oh yeah, I will surrender, oh yes, I will

The greatest romance that's ever been sold

I honestly never understood why this song never became as big as it should have. Probably because he was still going with a different name but this song is criminally underrated.

@adonaiyah2196

Maybe but it would be hard to market an unpronounceable symbol. Its a nice song

@gogoyubari366

What makes you believe this song is underrated?

@tommtommkin

If you go look up the top 100 hits of the 90s and then 2000s ect your not likely to find any of Princes songs thanks to WB and the rest of the music industry they basically black listed Prince as a punishment to teach him a lesson as not to challenge those in power and to threaten anyone else from ever standing up for themselves in the music business but Prince had b*lls he always stood up for what was right not just for himself but for others as well but it came at a price. I love that man now and always. There was more good in that man as a human being then how good he was as even an artist and most just stop at his music which is very very sad. To me he was thee greatest work of art that the Good Lord ever created as far as human beings go. I thank God for him daily.
