Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19, soon releasing the albums For You (1978) and Prince (1979). He went on to achieve critical success with the influential albums Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982). His sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), was recorded with his new backing band the Revolution, and was also the soundtrack to the film of the same name in which he starred. Purple Rain garnered continued success for Prince and was a major commercial achievement, spending six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200 chart. The soundtrack also won Prince the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. After disbanding the Revolution, Prince released the album Sign o' the Times (1987), widely hailed by critics as the greatest work of his career. In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. in 1993, he changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol logo. Hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar (known to fans as the "Love Symbol") and was often referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince (or TAFKAP) or simply The Artist.
After signing with Arista Records in 1998, Prince reverted to his original name in 2000. Over the next decade, six of his albums entered the U.S. top 10 charts. In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was a prolific musician who released 39 albums during his life, with a vast array of unreleased material left in a custom-built bank vault underneath his home after his death, including fully completed albums and over 50 finished music videos. He also released songs under multiple pseudonyms during his life, as well as writing songs that were made popular after being covered by other musicians, most notably "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinรฉad O'Connor and "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. Estimates of the complete number of songs written by Prince range anywhere from 500 to well over 1,000. Released posthumously, his demo albums Piano and a Microphone 1983 (2018) and Originals (2019) both received critical acclaim.
Prince sold over 100 million records worldwide, ranking him among the best-selling music artists of all time. His awards included the Grammy President's Merit Award, the American Music Awards for Achievement and of Merit, the Billboard Icon Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, and was inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022.

No we'll never find ways to make it right
But at least there, I'm tryin', oh
And without you know I'm losin' peace of mind (ayo, MD, flip that shit again)
And I can't sleep without you baby, oh-oh
It still hard here without you baby, oh-oh
And I miss you tonight
And I miss you tonight, oh-oh
Yeah, D-I-S-R-E-S-P-E-C-T
You gotta slide to me if you tryna find out what you mean to me (yeah)
Don't hit me up 'cause I gotta move on, that's just what it needs to be
When you hit up my line, you talk to yourself, you look like a di-di-di
And you know where I'm from
You don't gotta check on me to just get a piece of me
And whenever I pull up, I move like I'm lost, somebody keeps teasin' me
I did too much, I feel like I'm stuck, don't talk, just leave it, B
You got somebody you don't really need, that's just what it seems to me
Every now and then I get a look at reality
I could walk on both my feet but when I'm with you, I be losin' my gravity
Let me put it in your mouth for a couple minutes
Let me take out them cavities
And if you wanna have my kids just say that
'Cause you know I'm all about family
I come up with different topics and I always top it, I got different options
And you never did a thing in reality
You always live with different problems
And me bein' who I am
I choose to come around to teach you how to solve 'em
Anything you need, I be right there like it's not a fuckin' problem (yeah)
And everything I drop is a classic, when am I gon' put out the album?
When you checked the wrong pockets
I was laughin' 'cause I knew you almost found 'em
Everybody gon' talk but not this talk so watch who you let around us
Y'all counted me out, now y'all gotta stand on it like the ground we walk on
You keep callin' me up like you don't got a man
He need to watch who he talk on
All these good girls all around the globe but it's you I want though
All these good girls all around the globe but it's you I want though
Oh-oh
Put a lid on top of my double cup so they don't see the purple color
You get on my nerves, I don't wanna disrespect you, that'll hurt your mother
I stay tough 'cause I know they want me dead
And I can't let 'em that'll hurt my brothers
I'm already known around the world
I don't wanna be known for bein' stuck up
And you couldn't lift me up, had to do it myself when I was feelin' fucked up
And when they talk shit, the least I could say is I got my luck up
Stare at the rooftop lights in the sky, pretty colors
In Prince's song "Miss You," the lyrics depict a sense of loneliness and longing for a lost connection. The singer is on the road, making money, but feels isolated and empty. The repeated line "I've been on the road, making all this money all alone" emphasizes the emptiness and monotony of a life focused solely on material success. The singer seeks solace in getting high, perhaps to numb the pain and loneliness, but questions why they are always fighting their true feelings.
The lyrics further express a yearning for the past, for a relationship that no longer exists. The line "Used to be me and you, now it's just me" suggests that the bond that was once strong has now been broken. Despite being physically separated, the singer still feels a deep connection with the other person, expressing the desire for them to come back and ride away together.
The song also touches on mistrust and confusion in relationships. The lines "Rather you lie then tell me the truth baby, my heart already feeling so blue baby" reveal a fear of being deceived and a longing for honesty and clarity. The singer does not want to be confused or mistreated, emphasizing their vulnerability and desire for a genuine connection.
Overall, "Miss You" delves into themes of isolation, longing, and vulnerability, showcasing Prince's ability to convey complex emotions through his lyrics.

@DollFunk
I've been holding out so long
I've been sleeping all alone
Lord I miss you
I've been hanging on the phone
I've been sleeping all alone
I want to kiss you
Well, I've been haunted in my sleep
You've been staring in my dreams
Lord I miss you.
I've been waiting in the hall
Been waiting on your call
When the phone rings
It's just some friends of mine that say,
"Hey, what's the matter man?
We're gonna come around at twelve
With some Puerto Rican girls that are just dyin' to meet you
We're gonna bring a case of wine
Hey, let's go mess and fool around
You know, like we used to"
You've been strung up for her too long,
You know - girls will come and go -
They're just like streetcars...
I've been staying here too long,
Sometimes I feel so
Abandoned...
Oh everybody waits so long
Oh baby why you wait so long
Won't you come on! Come on!
I've been walking Central Park
Singing after dark
People think I'm crazy
I've been stumbling on my feet
Shuffling through the street
People ask me, "What's the matter with you boy?"
Sometimes I want to say to myself
Sometimes I say
I won't miss you child
I guess I'm lying to myself
It's just you and no one else
Lord I won't miss you child
You've been blotting out my mind
Fooling on my time
No, I won't miss you, baby, yeah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah

Never has there been such an artist that can do someone else's music and make it even BETTER/FUNKIER! So sad he's gone ... and yet still I find another song of his I hadn't heard before. WHY does radio/DJ's continue to overlook his music?
