Prince Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Chorus:]
(Push it up! Push it up!)
Put your hands up ¨see come on (Push it up!)
Huh ¨See yeah, this is it, this is it (Push it up!)
This is it
I think they got to get ready for this one here ¨see come on!
(Ooh, everybody's here) Say what?
(This is the jam of the year)
Huh, what did I hear? (Push it up! Push it up!)
Uh, wasn't quite clear
(Ooh, everybody's here) Say what?
(This is the jam of the year)
Oh, huh - I hear ya, huh (Push it up! Push it up!)
Come on, uh

If you're ever down draggin' on the ground
Face twisted with a funky frown
Let me turn you on to somethin' that I found
To make you feel good, feel good

Negativity like gravity
Gotcha fallin' fast from reality
You gotta get up, put up, move up
And just do what you should, you should

Realize that you are somebody
Come on, y'all, and join the party
Everybody grab a body
And feel good, you should

CHORUS:
Push it up - push it up - push it up - push it up
(Ooh, everybody's here - this is the jam of the year)
(Push it up! Push it up!)
Push it up - push it up - push it up - push it up
(Ooh, everybody's here - this is the jam of the year)
(Push it up! Push it up!)

Push it up, push it up to the sky
You don't have to have a plane to fly
If you listen to the truth and not the lie
Stop cryin', cryin'

In harmony, can't you see
Every color all in the same key
And that's the way Jah wants us to be
Start tryin', a-tryin'

Realize that you are somebody
Come on, y'all, and join the party
Everybody grab a body
And feel good, you should

[Chorus:]

Come on - wake up your body, wake up your body
Wake up your body and move it around ¨see come on
Yeah, huh
Where the party at in here, y'all?
Where the party goin' down in here? Uh

Now I want to know who's ready to show me
Get on down with the one and only party ambassador
Flip styles like a spatula mac-tacula
More Legend than a new Acura
Body tone stone while I rap to her
Capture her thinkin' I'm a mac to her
Just because I'm attracted to her
But the fact of the matter is the dance floor's phatter
The crowd's on fire as we push it up higher

Push it up! - come on, y'all
Push it up! - put your hands in the air
Push it up! - come on, y'all
Push it up! - while The Artist turn it up, come - uh!
Yeah, huh
Break it on down (Push it, push it up!)
Huh

This is the jam, this is the jam, this is the jam of the year
This is the jam, this is the jam, this is the jam of the year
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Everybody grab a body, everybody push it up
Everybody grab a body, everybody push it up
On and on till the early morn' - push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up
Push it up

How is it possible that this is yet another song I NEVER heard [played on the radio] before? The music industry truly did Prince so dirty by not playing the majority of his music. So sad to think so many folks don't even know what they missed out on ... and never will. RIP Prince - you know he's up in Heaven jammin' and making new music.

@suzeesix

The industry was punishing him for preaching independence and artists ownership of their art. He paid a price for bucking the system.

@tevaunstewart4606

Actually there are tons of songs he has never released and push it up was one of them, jam of the year was released but im not sure about talkin' loud and sayin' nothing. some of them still arent to this day. the man wrote so many songs and produced them and never used them. there is probably a vault full of un released prince songs its crazy. he also wrote for so many other artist for example chaka khan i feel for you was written by him.

Amen Desktop Dina! And suZee Six above summed it up in a nutshell! I bet he made "Them" mad when he said, "Take that, You sorry MF's" when his performance was ending at the AMA's! (forgot what year that was)

I was very lucky to have been there that night, with my future wife and late brother... I've watched various clips from this show so many times and still feel the magic, the sound, the energy that Prince and the band gave that night. I so wish that Prince was still here to see live, along with my brother that got me hooked on that MPLS sound and funky groove. Music has lost a true legend. Stay funky everyone, peace and be wild!

As soon as I heard Jam Of The Year, I was taken back to my first Prince concert, November 1997. I cried, screamed and danced for 2.75 hours. I had a good seat and hardly sat down!
