Pulley's debut, Esteem Driven Engine, was released in 1996 by Epitaph. Riddle joined No Use for a Name full-time soon afterwards and was replaced by Tyler Rebbe. Follow-ups included 60 Cycle Hum in 1997 and their eponymous third album in 1999.
They also released Together Again for the First Time (after the death of Jim Cherry) and Matters, both showing their disillusionment with the aging out of the 'old' scene.

At its core, Pulley's "Fuel" is a song about feeling disconnected and disillusioned. The opening lines set the scene: "It's dark I see through the smoke we breathe it's loud I can't hear the songs we play play fast everything keeps going slow." This suggests a sense of chaos and confusion - the singer is in a place where things don't make sense and they can't even hear the music they're supposed to be playing.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "taken down to size I'm feeling," which could be interpreted in a few different ways. Perhaps the singer is feeling humbled by the situation they're in, forced to confront their own vulnerabilities and limitations. Or maybe they feel small and insignificant in the face of larger social or political forces. The line "feel the scars beneath my clothes covers what I want to show" suggests that the singer is carrying some kind of emotional pain, but they're keeping it hidden.
The song's final lines are perhaps the most charged: "holy wars alienate." This could be a reference to the idea that religious conflicts often drive people apart and reinforce divisions between groups. Overall, "Fuel" seems to be a song about feeling lost and powerless in a world that doesn't make sense - a sentiment that's likely to resonate with many listeners.
