Ozymandias II
Qntal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I met a traveller from an antique land, who said:
"two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert...
and on the pedestal these words appear:
'my name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
nothing beside remains.
the lone and level sands stretch far away."

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Qntal's song "Ozymandias II" are based on the poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley. They describe a meeting between the singer and a traveler from an ancient land. The traveler shows the singer two legs of stone that stand alone in the desert, with a pedestal inscribed with the words "my name is Ozymandias, king of kings; look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" The traveler explains that nothing else remains beside these ruins, and the sands of the desert stretch far away.

Line by Line Meaning

I met a traveller from an antique land, who said:
I encountered someone who had journeyed from a timeless place, and this person recounted to me the following:

two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert...
There exist two enormous legs made of rock that have no body attached to them, and they are located within a barren wasteland...

...and on the pedestal these words appear:
...and upon the platform upon which these legs rest, there are inscribed these words:

'my name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
'I am known as Ozymandias, the ruler of all rulers;

look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
observe all that I have accomplished, oh mighty ones, and be filled with dread!'

nothing beside remains.
But nothing else exists in this location.

the lone and level sands stretch far away.
Only the desolate and flat sands extend as far as the eye can see into the distance.
