Hi I’m Swedish and here in Sweden a documentary called “the dolly style factory” was released in February 2019 and all former members who had left the group talked about how they where treated in the group mostly by their manager Emma Nors and producer Palle Hammarlund, they where also the creators of the group.
The group originally consisted of Alexandra (Holly aka the blue one), Carolina (Molly the pink one) and Emma (Polly the purple one). They where the original members of the group and the Molly, Holly and Polly personas where based on these three girls, they started of their career by entering the show Melodifestivalen with their debut single Hello Hi. Melodifestivalen is the pre selection to Eurovision and a pretty big deal here in Sweden and they got pretty popular, especially among young girls and children. They didn’t win or even come to the grand final tho.
Emma the manager also bought clothes worth around 7 536,64 dollar without the girls knowing that it went from their salary.
It was before the release of “Cherry Gum” Emma (Polly) left the group and got replaced by Marielle (she’s the Polly you see in the video). On their Wikipedia page it states that she left Dolly style to peruse her own band Heart, which the partly true but she also left because of Cherry Gums lyrics which could be seen as dirty and wanted to change it because so many children where fans of them. But their producer just said “we make music for the dads too and s3x sells” so she talked with their record label and they changed all the girls contract so they could leave whenever they wanted to. This meant that they could also get kicked out whenever. This lead to the members being very replaceable because they weren’t preforming as themselves, but as Molly, Holly and Polly. Their manager often threatened them to replace them with other people (even herself sometimes) so they would do as she said.
Carolina left the group in 2016 because of many reasons, her adhd being one. She has adhd but she doesn’t take medicine for it because it doesn’t really work for her but they tried forcing her to take it. She got replaced by a girl called Mikaela.
The second Polly left the same year I don’t really know what reason but I know their staff used to call the names like “the hungry doll” or “the fat doll” so that was probably why she left the left the group. She got replaced by a girl named Sarah.
The only remaining original member Alexandra left in 2018 because of the direction their management wanted to go. She had always wanted to be a part of the band because she wanted to prove to everyone that she was irreplaceable. She wanted to tour the world with Dolly style and she thought they would do it because their manager had talked about it. But their manager had a dream of creating a franchise of Dolly style. Like each country had it’s own group who would tour in only that country. She felt betrayed and left therefore the group.
Dolly style where role models for many young children and one of their messages was girl power. But behind the scenes it was a bit different. A day after their tour ended Sarah (the 3rd Polly) informed by their manager that she was kicked out because she was a too much of a feminist. That it would scare away people who where more conservative and that they would sell less.
Their manager would often trash talk the members who had left and say stuff like “oh look what she’s doing she’s trying to bring us down she’s such a bad person”. Their producer on the other hand not only said that they make music for the dads too also wanted them to flirt with other celebrities and in general act sexual which is weird cause in the beginning they where only 18.
I’m so if this was a really long answer but I really wanted to write this, I know other members have left the groups but I don’t know why so I won’t write it
