World of Pain
Rage Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Life was young and everything was bound to grow
Yes, we've made it, we were fruitful and explored
But now it's overloaded
It might as well explode, anytime
Hear my warning
Death is dawning
No tomorrow
Only sorrow
Live in a world of pain
All this time the spiral's turning till we fall
Why, oh why we never tried to take control
Is it that we're egoistic 'till the end
It's "after me the flood"
We blame it all on God, but it's not
Hear my warning
Death is dawning
This is a world of pain
No tomorrow
Only sorrow
Live in a world of pain
I don't want to live
In a world of pain
The lyrics to Rage's song "World of Pain" reflect on how the world has now become overpopulated and everything seems to be collapsing rapidly. The song starts off with reminiscing about the past where life was young, and everything was bound to grow. However, in present times everything is overloaded and could explode anytime. It feels like warning signs are being ignored, and death is looming around us. We were once fruitful in exploring the world around us, but now everything seems bleak. The chorus of the song emphatically repeats that we are living in a world of pain and there is no tomorrow, only sorrow.
The second verse questions why humans have never tried to take control of this situation before. It highlights how we are so egoistic and selfish even towards the end, saying it’s "after me the flood." The lyrics suggest that we often blame it all on God, but we are responsible for our own actions. The spiral seems to be turning till we fall, and we seem to be helpless against it.
Overall, the lyrics of World of Pain express the artist's concern and a sense of despair about the state of the world. It highlights how our actions can lead to catastrophic consequences and that we must take responsibility to avoid a world full of pain.
