Rancid has had two lineup changes since its inception, with Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman being continuous members. Their current lineup consists of Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Freeman on bass and vocals, Lars Frederiksen on guitar and vocals, and Branden Steineckert on drums. The band was formed by Armstrong, Freeman, and former drummer Brett Reed, who left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Steineckert. This lineup recorded their first album, with Frederiksen joining the band on their subsequent tour.
To date, Rancid has released ten studio albums, one split album, one compilation, two extended plays, and a series of live online-only albums, and has been featured on a number of compilation albums. The band has sold over four million records worldwide, making it one of the most successful punk rock groups of all time. The band rose to fame in 1994 with its second studio album, Let's Go, featuring the single "Salvation". In the following year, Rancid released its highly successful album ...And Out Come the Wolves, which produced its best-known songs "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho", and "Time Bomb", and was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA, selling over one million copies in the United States alone. Its next six albums – Life Won't Wait (1998), Rancid (2000), Indestructible (2003), Let the Dominoes Fall (2009), ...Honor Is All We Know (2014) and Trouble Maker (2017) – were also critically acclaimed, though not as commercially successful as ...And Out Come the Wolves. The band released their tenth album, Tomorrow Never Comes, in June 2023.

Hey hey! hey hey! hey hey! hey hey!
I want to go where the action is
I want to fly through the urban blight
I want to live like a shadow in the dark
And only move at night
That let's the winter bleed
Twenty one year's old, and no money to read
[Chorus:]
How did you know the roof would cave in
Over and over again
Beat up bruised a record that's broken
Adina's crying again
Beat up Chevy with a trailer in tow
Is what they call home now
One more hill or river to cross
On the way to another town
Crying in her beer, and always runnin' away
Maybe not so much runnin' but hopin' for better day's
How did you know the roof would cave in
Over and over again
Beat up bruised a record that's broken
Adina's crying again
Hey hey! hey hey! hey hey! hey hey!
I want to go where the action is
I want to fly through the urban blight
I want to live like a shadow in the dark
And only move at night
A story bought, a one story house
That let's the winter bleed
Twenty one year's old, no money to read
How did you know the roof would cave in
Over and over again
Beat up bruised a record that's broken
Adina's crying again
Hey hey! hey hey! hey hey! hey hey!
She's cryin' again!
The song Adina by Rancid is a heartfelt story about a young woman's struggle with poverty and constantly moving to find a better life. The lyrics paint a picture of a hopeless situation where Adina's trailer with her beat-up Chevy is her only home as she continually travels to new towns seeking a brighter future. The first verse shows the desire of Adina to fly through the urban blight, move only at night, and stay like a shadow through the darkness. Adina is looking for a way to go where the action is, but her current circumstances of poverty prevent her from achieving her dreams.
The chorus of the song illustrates the constant challenges that Adina faces, with the roof repeatedly caving in and her record being broken, symbolic of the difficulties she endures in her unsteady lifestyle. Adina's crying is also recounted, an expression of the sadness and despair that accompanies her experiences. The second verse reiterates Adina's struggle as a youthful 21-year-old with no money to read, living in a one-story house that lets the winter bleed. Adina is always hoping for a better day, a way out of her current situation.
The song's lyrics convey how the world can be a cruel and unforgiving place, especially for those who find themselves on the margins of society. Adina is a symbol of those who suffer silently, moving from one town to another, searching for a way out of their difficult situations, enduring the many hardships that come their way.
