History: Rascal Flatts were founded near Columbus, Ohio. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus were second cousins from a musical family. DeMarcus's brother-in-law, James Otto, is also a country music artist. DeMarcus moved to Nashville in 1992, earning his first record deal as part of a Christian group called East to West. In 1997, he finally convinced LeVox to leave behind his job with the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and follow his musical dreams as well.
DeMarcus soon joined Chely Wright's band, and there he met Joe Don Rooney. DeMarcus and LeVox were working in a Printer's Alley nightclub, and when their part-time guitarist could not make it one night, DeMarcus invited Rooney to sit in. Eventually, they took the name Rascal Flatts and began performing together, getting signed to Lyric Street Records in late 1999.
The band was recently announced that they have celebrated 10 years of being one of the hottest country bands of the decade. On January 7, 2020, Rascal Flatts announced that they would be disbanding following a farewell tour after twenty years together. However, this farewell tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the group's disbandment was officially confirmed in October 2021.

My world was turned around
Upside down
To some degree I still regret
My memory
For keeping you around
Girl, I thought that you were mine
Shattered
One too many times
And I don't wanna see you anymore
I'm just not that strong
I love it when you're here
But I'm better when you're gone
I'm certain that I've given
And, oh, how you can take
There's no use in you lookin'
There's nothin' left for you to break
Baby, please release me
Let my heart rest in pieces, in pieces
Someone let you down again
So you turn to me
Your convenient friend
Oh, but I know what you're doin'
And what you hope to find
I've seen it a thousand times
All the fire we had before
Are now just bitter ashes
Left scattered on the floor
And I don't wanna see you anymore
I'm just not that strong
I love it when you're here
But I'm better when you're gone
I'm certain that I've given
And, oh, how you can take
There's no use in you lookin'
There's nothin' left for you to break
Baby, please release me
Let my heart rest in pieces, yeah
I don't wanna see you anymore
I'm just not that strong
I love it when you're here, baby
But I'm better when you're gone
I'm certain that I've given
And, oh, how you can take
There's no use in you lookin'
There's nothin' left for you to break
Baby, please release me
We both know that you don't need me (You don't need me)
Let my heart rest in pieces, in pieces
Let it rest
The song "Pieces" by Rascal Flatts tells the story of a toxic relationship that has reached its breaking point. From the first moment the two met, their world was turned upside down. However, the relationship was not a healthy one, as the singer notes that he "still regrets" keeping the other person around. This person has broken the singer's heart one too many times, leaving it shattered. Despite this, the singer still struggles with the decision to let go and move on from the relationship, noting that he is better off without this person, even though he loves having them around.
The singer describes how the other person turns to him whenever they are let down by someone else, and how he has seen this pattern repeat itself many times. The relationship that was once full of fire and passion is now reduced to bitter ashes scattered on the floor. The singer realizes that there is nothing left for this person to break, and pleads with them to release him, so he can let his heart rest in pieces.
Overall, "Pieces" is a powerful song that speaks to the struggles of letting go of a toxic relationship, even when it is the best thing to do. It is a reminder that sometimes the hardest thing we can do is to say goodbye, but that in doing so, we can find peace and move on to something better.
