Founded by Creager in 1992, they have long held true to their mission of enlightening the common man as to the power and versatility of the mighty cello. Historically influenced, and constantly costumed, Rasputina keeps a small legion of incredibly passionate admirers enthralled with their earnest musicianship. Considered to be quite a pioneer and visionary, Melora and her group have inspired countless young people to pick up the cello, and have re-inspired many uninspired string players. Rasputina considers this to be the finest payment for their work.
Professional involvements have included Nirvana, Ultra Vivid Scene, Marilyn Manson, Porno For Pyros, Belle and Sebastian, and Cheap Trick.
Former Members of Rasputina:
Julia Kent (89-99)
Kris Cowperthwaite (00-02)
Zoë Keating (02-06)

To take me
To the Ice Hotel from the magazine
What we will need
Is a gleaming key
Made of ice as well
By the finest ice machine
It's there that no one will stare
At your jaws and your long fur
The claws in your fingers
It's in the past when the passersby laughed
At your strange way of speaking
Your batteries leaking
Oh no
Oh God no
They don't know
The New Zero
Uniforms worn
So leisurely
The reindeer skins
The privacy
How was he born?
He's asking me
Flapping his fins
Very impressively
It's there that no one will stare
At your jaws and your long fur
The claws in your fingers
It's in the past when the passersby laughed
At your strange way of speaking
Your batteries leaking
Oh no
Oh God no (He has agreed)
They don't know (To take me)
The New Zero (To the Ice Hotel)
I really don't care and neither does he
If this hotel melts into the sea
Polished and so rare, this way that we see
The coldness helps, it's our favorite remedy
It's there that no one will stare
At your jaws and your long fur
The claws in your fingers
It's in the past when the passersby laughed
At your strange way of speaking
Your batteries leaking
Oh no
Oh God no (He has agreed)
They don't know (To take me)
The New Zero (To the Ice Hotel)
The main theme of this song is about choosing to go to a place where no one knows you nor will they judge you. The lyrics suggest that the character wants to go somewhere where they won't be judged based on their looks, speaking style, and other quirks. The Ice Hotel is the destination - a secluded, cold, and quiet place where one can be alone and at peace. The character has made plans with someone ("he has agreed") to take them to the Hotel, and they need a "gleaming" key made of ice to get in. It is said that this hotel is the "New Zero," a place removed from the biases and judgments of the world.
The line "the coldness helps, it's our favorite remedy" reinforces the character's desire to be in such an environment. They feel that the isolation, quietness, and detachment from the world are therapeutic, and it acts as a sort of reset button for them. The use of the word "uniforms" in the lyrics suggests that it is a place where everyone is equal, and no one is judged based on their attire or status.
The song suggests that to find inner peace, one needs to detach themselves from the biases and prejudices of the world. The Ice Hotel serves as an analogy for a peaceful and non-judgmental environment. The song's tone is soft, melancholic, and reflective, which reinforces the idea of finding oneself in a quiet and non-judgmental environment.
