As of 2007, Joey Bishop is the only male member of the Rat Pack who is still alive.
2) In 1984, RAT PACK singer/founder Matt Ratt was covering the vocal duties for Rich Kids on LSD, while singer Jason Sears was away on "medical leave". During this time Rich Kids on LSD was signed on to record for the now infamous"NARDCORE" album on Mystic Records. Just prior to recording, Jason returned from his leave of absense. So left with the dilema of an album to record, and suddenly no band, Matt was told to throw something together quickly and record for the album anyway. So after a few rehearsals with Chris Rest and Alpo D.(borrowed from Rich Kids on LSD) Dave Casillas from STALAG 13 and Mike Torres from NARTHEX STRUCTURE, RAT PACK was born! Although originaly only meant to be a recording project for the NARDCORE album, RAT PACK ended up doing three records for Mystic, 1985's self titled 7", 1987's "Ice Cream Acid and Cigarettes" 7" and 1990's self titled full length Lp. Through the years RAT PACK has gone through long periods of hibernation, with many line up changes...people that have played in and recorded with RAT PACK include current and former members of bands such as NOFX, SOCIAL DISTORTION, STALAG 13, ADOLESCENTS, D.I., SUGAR CULT, HOLLYWOOD HATE, FOO FIGHTERS, Rubber Neck, LAGWAGON, Rich Kids on LSD, NO USE FOR A NAME, and ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES.
I Get A Kick Out Of You
Rat Pack Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mere alcohol
Doesn't thrill me at all
So tell me why should it be true
That I get a kick out of you
Some get a kick from cocaine
I'm sure that if
It would bore me terrifically too
Yet I get a kick out of you
I get a kick every time I see you
Standing there before me
I get a kick though it's clear to see
You obviously don't adore me
Some get a kick in a plane
Flying too high
With some gal in the sky
Is my idea of nothing to do
But I get a kick out of you
I get a kickout of you
The lyrics of "I Get A Kick Out Of You" by the Rat Pack explore the theme of personal preferences and the unique ways in which individuals derive pleasure and excitement from various experiences and relationships.
In the first verse, the singer declares that they do not find any excitement or enjoyment in the extravagant and luxurious elements of life such as champagne and alcohol. These materialistic pleasures fail to offer them any fulfillment or thrill. They question why it should be the case that they find genuine exhilaration from something or someone else, setting the stage for the exploration of other sources of enjoyment that follow.
The second verse mentions cocaine, highlighting how some people find pleasure and a "kick" from such a substance. The singer, however, asserts their disinterest in partaking in its consumption. They are certain that even one whiff of cocaine would not captivate or excite them in any way. Despite this, the singer confesses that there is something else that does manage to thrill them - the focus shifts to a particular person who brings joy and a burst of energy into their life.
The third verse states that merely seeing this person standing before them fills the singer with a sense of euphoria and excitement. It is evident, though, that this person does not reciprocate the same passionate feelings towards the singer. Despite this unrequited affection, the singer confesses that they still find excitement in their presence, implying that the mere existence of the person still brings them happiness and thrills them.
The final verse takes a contrasting perspective in comparison to the previous ones. This time, the singer reflects on the thrill that some individuals experience when engaging in adventurous activities such as flying in a plane with someone, presumably engaging in a romantic or exhilarating affair. The singer, in contrast, claims that they find such activities uninteresting and irrelevant to their concept of excitement. Yet, despite not finding delight in these external experiences, the singer concludes that they still gain a significant thrill from the person they have been referring to throughout the song, emphasizing the profound impact this person has on their emotions.
In summary, "I Get A Kick Out Of You" delves into the idea that personal preferences and connections can bring unique joy and exhilaration to an individual's life, surpassing more conventional sources of pleasure. The lyrics highlight the singer's indifference towards materialistic and adventurous thrills, while focusing on the profound excitement they feel when in proximity to a particular person, even if that person does not reciprocate their feelings.
