He has been blind since birth and combines his distinct voice, strumming, beats, and acapella instruments to create a one-man performance. His unique style shows influence of virtually every musical genre which came before him, including jazz, blues, R&B, and folk.
His debut album "State of Mind" also contains a guest apperance on harmonica by Stevie Wonder on the track titled "Expression of Love".

I woke up this morning in a hospital bed (recent bout with cancer), feeling sorry for myself and then saw this. I cried with gratitude happy to be alive when I started to listening Raul play.
Please never forget the power of great music and powerful performances, thank you to NPR and all the technicians that made this possible.

@ Jay Tuesday / 1 hour before a gig in Hamburg began, i got a call - a girlfriend died.Shocked, I didn't want to go first, but I did.
Small hall, only about 200 people. My feeling was, he only play for me! In the end an encore, he never played, I think he only played there. "I don't wanna hurt you - Roxy Music" My late friend's current favorite!
MAGIC, nothing else.

Finally a REAL musician and not one of these hipster poser kids who think having a guitar and a voice alone makes you a good musician. I really feel this soul in his music. That's a real full-blooded musician, I instantly know it it when I hear one.
