Red Flag made the top 10 Billboard charts in 1988 with their memorable song Russian Radio. The next year Red Flag's debut album, Naive Art, released by Enigma Records, earned them another top 10 single on the Billboard Dance chart with "If I Ever". MTV put Red Flag's video, Russian Radio, in rotation later that year. Touring extensively, Red Flag played with acts Devo, Thomas Dolby, and Book of Love. They appeared on the TV show American Bandstand where they performed Russian Radio.
Since then, Red Flag released 11 albums, 14 CD singles, two box sets and appeared on numerous compilations. Their music has been featured on MTV reality shows. The band has played concerts around the world in the U.S., Europe, Canada, Mexico, and South America.

If I Ever
Red Flag Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Yet I hear it most of the time
Here is a sound. I've never found
Yet I feel it most of the time
Oh should they ever turn you to blue, dear
What will I do
And should they ever turn you to gray, dear
Oh oh oh oh oh, don't you turn too
Oh oh oh oh oh, if I ever change
Learn to confide, we'll move tides
I believe this most of the time
Whether it be untrue, fade from gray, fade to blue
All we need is most of the time
Oh should they ever turn you to blue, dear
What will I do
And should they ever turn you to gry, dear
What will I say
Oh oh oh oh oh, don't you turn too
Oh oh oh oh oh, if I ever change
There is a word, love
Mosgt of the time
There is a word, love
Oh oh oh oh oh, don't you turn too
Oh oh oh oh oh, if I ever change
The lyrics of Red Flag's song "If I Ever" speak of the uncertainty and insecurity that can come with a changing relationship. The opening lines create a sense of mystery and intrigue, with the singer acknowledging that there is a world and a sound that they have never experienced before, but which they feel nonetheless. The repetition of the phrase "most of the time" emphasizes the instability and unpredictability of the situation, suggesting that the singer is grappling with their own doubts and fears.
The refrain of the song is a plea to the other person not to change, as the singer worries that their connection might be threatened if either of them were to turn "blue" or "gray." This emotional language suggests that the relationship is not just based on practical considerations or shared interests, but on a deep sense of mutual understanding and emotional support. The second verse reinforces this, with the lines "Learn to confide, we'll move tides / I believe this most of the time" suggesting that the singer still has faith in the other person even as they struggle to navigate the unknown.
Overall, "If I Ever" is a powerful expression of the vulnerability and complexity of human relationships. It acknowledges the fear of change and loss, while also celebrating the possibility of true connection and understanding.
