Redman's solo career continued throughout the remainder of the decade, with each of his albums selling at least half a million copies. His musical style has remained very consistent, rarely deviating from a combination of Redman's unique braggadocious wit and hard, P-funk-influenced beats. In addition to releasing albums under his own name, he is part of the group Def Squad (along with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon) with whom he released the 1998 album El Nino, and also has formed a close partnership with labelmate Method Man (of the Wu-Tang Clan) with whom he released the 1999 album Blackout!. The long-awaited follow-up, Blackout! 2, apeared in 2009.
He has also collaborated extensively, both with hip-hop artists and with artists from other genres; the long list of artists and groups he has worked with includes Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, The Offspring, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Gorillaz, D'Angelo, Me'shell Ndegeocello, 2Pac, Jodeci, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, KRS One and IAM.
In 2001 Redman co-starred with Method Man in the stoner comedy film How High, which featured the pair playing two marijuana-addled students attempting to survive at Harvard. Method Man and Redman also appear in the Def Jam Vendetta video game series, often as Tag Team partners, and briefly had their own television sitcom, Method & Red, on Fox during the 2004-2005 season.
Redman is also featured on the video game "True Crime: New York City", in which the central character interacts with an undercover street cop based upon the rap star, who also provides the voice for him.

Knees buckle the fuck up when I'm splittin' my dutch
Back up back up! Ain't nobody hittin' for free
It's just E Doubl-E, Keith Murray, and me
It cost twenty if you're down with it
Ayo son I ride around with my hooptie tinted
To ride around blitted
Cause I be feignin' for that pookie
And I be, smokin' up the hotel lobby
Between mo' sheets than the Isleys, I'm high G
I'm holdin' it down for the be-Rrrah-I-see
K, blaze, tell you to get bluhh politely
(Hit the funky if you're riding around gettin' blitz)
Ask me if I love the rap game, I, I'm loving it
Cause I can do what the ow fuck I feel is real
Blaze the poot with D. Don and tell uh to get the dills
I smoke on and on on, ya don't stop
I'm gettin' mad fucked up and ya don't stop
To all my real dogs, all my real pals
Who ain't smokin', get the fuck ow
I smoke on and on on, ya don't stop
I'm gettin' mad fucked up and ya don't stop
To all my real dogs, all my real pals
Who ain't smokin', get the fuck ow
I just love tokin', blackin' out like Tame in the open
Of course I got the raw dog no need to stick your nose in
Gave you a straight up shotgun when we was smokin'
Froze you so fast, you looked it like Madonna Vogue-in
Aw! I got the sh to get your whole click high
We can get high, but act funny and I'ma whip out
And they gon' whip out, and blow notes like Michel'le
Cause you tried to jump the cipher and it goes this-a-way
I smoke on and on on, ya don't stop
I'm gettin' mad fucked up and ya don't stop
To all my real dogs, all my real pals
Who ain't smokin', get the fuck ow
I smoke on and on on, ya don't stop
I'm gettin' mad fucked up and ya don't stop
To all my real dogs, all my real pals
Who ain't smokin', get the fuck ow

In "Smoke Buddah," Redman talks about his love for smoking weed and how it's become a problem for him. He mentions how his knees buckle when he smokes too much, and how he rides around in a hooptie with tinted windows when he's blazed. He also talks about holding it down for his hometown of Brick City and name-checks fellow rappers E Double and Keith Murray. He spits rhymes about smoking up the hotel lobby and getting mad fucked up with his real pals.
Throughout the song, Redman raps about how he loves to get high and how he doesn't care what anyone thinks. He mentions that he blacks out when he smokes and how he can get his whole crew high with just one hit. He even threatens to whip out his gun if anyone acts funny while smoking with him.
Overall, "Smoke Buddah" is a tribute to Redman's love for smoking weed and his laid-back, carefree attitude.
