Castaway
Reese Lansangan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Step to the farthest side of my dream
Be careful of what you might see
So careless inside I'm dying
Slowly

Sail into my wildest dream
Wrapped up like a little bum's shoelace
High strung but I am trying
Hopelessly

On my own castaway
Trapped and caught in between
Darkened skies, tidal waves
But I am moving on

See through the hollowed eyes of my dream
Psycho traumatic hypnotic scene
A mountain of dust to ponder over

On my own castaway
Trapped and caught in between
Darkened skies, tidal waves
But I am moving on

Well I'm blind
Reaction too late
I'm behind but catch me I'm moving on
And on...

On my own castaway
Trapped and caught in between
Darkened skies, tidal waves
But I am moving on

And on...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Reese Lansangan's song Castaway address the feeling of being stuck in between two places, emotionally and mentally. The lyrics in the beginning of the song suggest that the singer is inviting someone to take a closer look at their innermost thoughts and feelings, but at the same time warns them to be mindful of what they may find. The next line says "So careless inside I'm dying, slowly," a metaphorical statement that suggests an inner turmoil that the singer is struggling to overcome. She then asks the listener to sail into her "wildest dream" but describes herself as "wrapped up like a little bum's shoelace," with the implication being that no matter how hard she tries, she can't escape her struggles.

As the song progresses, the listener hears the singer's plea more clearly - she feels like a castaway, caught between the depths of her subconscious and the surface level of her reality. The image of "darkened skies, tidal waves" further reinforces the sense of being trapped, isolated, and overwhelmed. However, the chorus ends on a more positive note - the singer states that she is "moving on." The final line of the song, "And on..." leaves the song's conclusion open-ended, suggesting that while the singer may still be struggling, she is committed to continuing forward in her journey.

Overall, Castaway is a powerful expression of the complex emotions that come with being stuck in between two places, caught in a liminal space that can sometimes feel overwhelming. The lyrics and the melody work together to create a sense of tension and release, of being trapped and then finding a way to move forward.

Reese shows how covers should be done. The lyrics of the song became more haunting as she dissects each verses and emotionally connecting to the song that you really feel you'll never hear Franco's song Castaway same as we first hear it.

I think the same can be said with Franco singing bleed... Made me feel as if the song Bleed was originally Franco's song... Reese was right when she said Bleed wasn't just her song, but everyone else's song.
