All about this boy
Oh, he loved me so
But I didn't know what love was
I am old enough to live alone
Figure life out on my own
But I still don't know what love is
I shut the door too many times
Must've ignored all the signs
That might have led me somebody good
Who'll treat me like they should
I guess I'll never know
But all this time I'm chasing the wrong kind
I've been blinded
When I saw the danger in his eyes, I can't explain myself
All this time I'm chasing the wrong kind
I've been blinded
When I saw the danger in his eyes
It gets me every time
Tell you all about this boy I knew
Yeah, I was all about that boy
But he played me like a toy
Oh, he didn't know what love was
I should be smart enough to weed out
The good from all the bad, no doubt
But I still don't know what love is all about
Somebody tell me what's wrong with my mind
I shut the door too many times
Must've ignored all the signs
That might have led me somebody good
Who'll treat me like they should
I guess I'll never know
But all this time I'm chasing the wrong kind
I've been blinded
When I saw the danger in his eyes, I can't explain myself
All this time I'm chasing the wrong kind
I've been blinded
When I saw the danger in his eyes
It gets me every time
Somebody tell me what's wrong with me lately
I've been thinking
And I still don't know
But I'll be ready for it
Somebody tell me what's wrong with me lately
I've been thinking
And I still don't know
But I'll be ready for it
Somebody tell me what's wrong with me lately
I've been thinking
And I still don't know
But I'll be ready for it
Somebody tell me what's wrong with me lately
I've been thinking
And I still don't know
Let me tell you all about
All about this boy
Oh, he loved me so
But I didn't know what love was
I am old enough to live alone
Figure life out on my own
But I still don't know what love is
The song "The Chase" by Reese Lansangan is a modern take on the classic theme of chasing love. Through her lyrics, Lansangan describes her experiences with a boy who loved her, but she didn't know what love was. The song is structured in a way where it is clear that she has moved on from her past love, but she still has questions about it. Her lyrics describe a self-discovery journey where she's trying to understand what went wrong and why she repeated the same patterns with different people.
The first verse sets the stage and introduces the central theme of the song. The persona talks about a boy who loved her, but she didn't understand what love was. She then questions her ability to live independently, as she still doesn't know what love is. The second verse talks about the same boy who played her like a toy, making it clear that the relationship was toxic. The persona then questions why she couldn't weed out the good from the bad, indicating her lack of understanding of relationships.
The chorus is the pivotal point of the song as it states that she has been chasing the wrong kind all this time. The persona was blinded by the danger in his eyes and couldn't explain herself. The chorus is repeated twice, indicating the severity of the problem. Finally, in the last verse, she still questions what's wrong with her and seeks answers from somebody. The song ends on a hopeful note as she says she will be ready for it.
Overall, "The Chase" is a beautifully written song that captures the emotional turmoil of chasing love. The lyrics resonate with anyone who has ever been in a toxic relationship and struggled with self-discovery.

The video reminded me of IU & Wes Andersonβs style because of the unique and adjacent cinematography and vibrant color palette. Visually-pleasing yet relaxing at the same time.
