Romeo and Juliet
Reflections Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Findin' a job tomorrow mornin'.
Gotta little somethin' I wanna do.
Gonna buy (gonna buy) somethin' I could ride in.
A-take my girl (take my girl) datin' at the drive-in.
Our love's gonna be written down in history,
A-Just like Romeo and Juliet.

I'm gonna buy her pretty presents.
Just like the ones in a catalog.
Gonna show (gonna show) how much I love her.
A-Let 'er know (let 'er know) one way or the other.
Our love's gonna be written down in history,
A-Just like Romeo and Juliet.

(Doop-doop-doop, doo-doot-doot-doot-doot-doot-doot, doo-doop.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)

Talk about love and romance,
Just wait till I get myself straight.
I'm a-gonna put Romeo's fame,
Right, smack, dab on the deed.

Alright, now, I'm speculatin',
Wonder what tomorrow's gonna really bring.
If I don't (if I don't) find work tomorrow,
It's gonna be (gonna be) heartaches and sorrow.
Our love's gonna be destroyed by a tragedy,
A-Just like Romeo and Juliet.

(Doop-doop-doop, doo-doot-doot-doot-doot-doot-doot, doo-doop.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
[Fade.]
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)

(Just like Romeo and Juliet.)
(Just like Romeo and Juliet)

Overall Meaning

The song "Romeo and Juliet" by Reflections is about a young man who is hopeful and excited about his future with his girlfriend. He plans on finding a job, buying a car, and taking her on a date to the drive-in. He talks about how their love will be written down in history like the famous fictional couple, Romeo and Juliet. He plans on buying her presents to show how much he loves her and wants her to know how he feels.

However, towards the end of the song, he acknowledges that not everything in life goes according to plan. He worries about what will happen if he doesn't find a job, and suggests that their love could end tragically like Romeo and Juliet. The song captures the hope and fear that come with being in love, and the uncertainty that life can bring.

Overall, the lyrics are a reflection of the youthful optimism and risk-taking that are often associated with young love. The dreamer in the song hopes that he can create something special with his lover, but in the end, he is aware that there are no guarantees in life and love.

This song is from 1964, yet it sounds so much better than the garbage we have today that passes for music.

@utbob2010

Everytime I hear this song it takes me back to a very warm spring day heading down the 101 in a 1957 Thunderbird with the top down.
It was my brother's girlfriend's car, and we were heading over to Malibu for some sun, surf and fun.
It's been close to 59 years, and I still remember that wonderful day listening to this wonderful song.
Thank you so much!
