Beyond the Gun
Resurrection Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have had my fill
Now the will to move, I choose
To run, out beyond the gun
They're as cold as you
Like the barricade, you built
I whisper Your Name
In the blue light, tonight
No, no more questions here
Now to shed this fear
Strip myself of frigid steel and concrete
Here in the backstreet
Crossing the zone, wire and trench
You, God my sole defence
How, I love you, land of my birth
Now I leave you
And perhaps this earth
Now the will to go
At last I choose
At least I chose
Father, run with me please
I run
I run
I run
To run out beyond the gun
To run out beyond the gun
To run out beyond the gun
To run out beyond the gun
The lyrics to Resurrection Band's "Beyond the Gun" speak to the desire to break free from oppressive surroundings and find a sense of freedom and peace. The song opens with a depiction of a cold and foggy setting, suggesting a bleak and ominous atmosphere. However, the singer declares his intention to move forward and leave behind the sense of confinement and danger represented by "the gun." The use of the phrase "beyond the gun" is open to interpretation but could reference any number of oppressive forces, such as violence, fear, or political or social oppression.
The singer speaks in the first person, conveying a strong personal experience and a deep sense of longing for something more. He whispers his faith and trust in God, looking for solace in a world that feels devoid of hope. The final verse speaks to a love for his homeland, but ultimately the desire to leave and possibly even leave the earth altogether. The repetition of "I run" throughout the song emphasizes the determination and sense of urgency that underlies the singer's actions.
Overall, "Beyond the Gun" is a powerful exploration of the fight for freedom, both physical and emotional. It speaks to the struggles of those who face oppression and fear in their daily lives, and the need to find hope and strength in the face of adversity.

It would be awesome to see Servant re-released with bonus material someday. Caught in the act of loving him is a great album.

This is exciting, and I will be buying this and adding this to my collection. Just curious, unlike their secular counterparts, it's my understanding that in the Christian music world there are less unreleased songs that would be considered bonus tracks on re-releases of albums. It's my understanding due to budget reasons. However I found a Rez radio promo CD on ebay once. It had spoken word introductions to the songs on one of their albums. So there is supplemental material out there, it's too bad that the re-releases omit it.
