Rhett Akins had a band by the time he was eleven. In 1992, he moved to Nashville to follow his dream of becoming a country music star. He received a record deal from Decca Records after they heard a few of his demos. He debuted his first album A Thousand Memories in 1994. Two of the songs on the album made it into the top 40 of the charts, but it wasn't until a year later that he made it big. In 1995, he released the song "That Ain't My Truck," which made it into the top five. He released the album Somebody New in 1996, but not to much success. Rhett came back in 1998 with his third album titled What Livin's All About, but it too did not reach the success of his first album. His fourth album, titled Friday Night In Dixie, was released in March of 2002. It had moderate success with its title-track "Friday Night In Dixie". Rhett is scheduled to release his fifth album People Like Me on March 13, 2006. The album is already very anticipated because of the song "Kiss My Country Ass". This song has created controversy, and some radio stations have refused to play it.
He has also written songs that have been used by other artists, such as Little Sundress, sung by Chris Cagle, and Put a Girl In It has been a hit for Brooks & Dunn.
No Room
Rhett Akins Lyrics

Mary, heavy with child
Whispered to Joseph, "I can't go on anymore"
He wrapped her up in his arms
Said, "I'll find you some place warm"
But they were turned away at every door
Sorry, but we're too full to let you in
No space, no place for the baby Jesus
No room
Once again Christmas is here
Busiest time of the year
There's a growing list of last minute things still to do
Not many shopping days left
Still got presents to wrap
People are saying parties we've got to go to
No room, no room
Sorry, but life's too full to let you in
No space, no place for the Saviour Jesus
No room
No room, no room
Lord, help us find, help us find the room
The song "No Room" by Rhett Akins is a modern retelling of the story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem on the night of the first Christmas. The song tells the story of the couple, with Mary heavy with child, seeking warmth and shelter, only to be turned away at every door. The chorus repeats the heartbreaking refrain of “no room, no room” as they are denied all spaces where they can rest for the night.
The song is not only about the physical reality of a young, pregnant woman and her husband being turned away at every inn but also about the lack of space for Jesus, the Savior, in our busy lives. The song's lyrics, "Sorry, but life's too full to let you in" and "there's a growing list of last-minute things still to do," highlight how easily we can become preoccupied with things that don't matter and lose sight of what Christmas should be all about.
Overall, the song is a poignant reminder of the need for compassion, empathy, and human kindness. In the midst of our busy lives, it is essential to remember the significance of the season and make room for the things and people that matter the most.
