Anima
Richard Einhorn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
...est ceste Ame cheue d'amour en nient.
...mens eius insane suspensa ex vehementi cupidine...
...per solum Amorem aeternum trahitur in aeternitatem Amoris
...anima eius amore fluens et languens.
...anima eius amore fluens et languens
...per solum Amorem aeternum trahitur in aeternitatem Amoris
...anima eius amore fluens et languens
...per solum Amorem aeternum trahitur in aeternitatem Amoris
The lyrics in Richard Einhorn's "Anima" are in Latin and describe a soul (anima) that is flowing and languishing in love (amore). The soul is suspended in insanity due to intense desire (vehementi cupidine), yet is only drawn towards eternal love (Amorem aeternum) which leads it to eternal existence in the realm of love (aeternitatem Amoris). The repetition of these lines emphasizes the power of love to transcend and transform the soul.
The idea of the soul being transformed and lifted by love is a common theme in romantic and spiritual writing. In this song, Einhorn blends the two, creating a mystical and emotional journey through the power of love. The use of Latin adds to the ethereal and otherworldly feel of the song, transporting the listener to a transcendent realm. The repetition of phrases further underscores the cyclical nature of love, which flows and returns, leading the soul towards eternal existence.

I love the soundtrack. I think its gorgeous and really captures some of the tension and suspense that is being experienced, not only Joan but also by those who see the injustice but choose not to speak up about it. I think that precisely because close-ups are so heavily used, as well as hard lighting techniques to draw out emotional distinctions, this soundtrack really forces the audience to keep up with the intensity of feeling and maybe even become lost in it which is what I think Dreyer wants
