Bitchin' in the Kitchen
Richard O'Brien Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dear blender
Oh won't you help a first offender
Oh, toaster
Don't you put the burn on me
Refrigerator, why are we always sooner or later
Bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night

Dear knife drawer
Now won't you help me to face life more
Oh, trashcan
Don't you put the dirt on me
Oh percolator, why are we always sooner or later
Bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night

Everything used to be OK
But I've been had
And Brad, I'm glad to say, is on his way
Micro-digital awaker, why are we always sooner or later
Bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night

Shower curtain
Oh won't you help me to be certain
Oh, toothpaste
Don't you put the squeeze on me
Depilitator, why are we always sooner or later
Bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night

Tell me spectator, why are always sooner or later
Bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night!

Overall Meaning

The song "Bitchin' in the Kitchen" is a playful yet relatable take on the frustrations of daily life. The singer addresses various household items, imploring them for assistance in making their life easier. However, the chorus reflects the underlying feeling of being stuck in a rut and unable to escape the cycle of mundane tasks and emotional turmoil. The repetition of the line "sooner or later bitchin' in the kitchen or crying in the bedroom all night" highlights the singer's feelings of being trapped and unable to break free from their daily struggles.

If this film was released around 2001 instead of 1981, it would have gotten way more recognition of it’s satirical brilliance! 20 years ahead of it’s time!

Couldn’t agree more!

So True. Also if you watch them back to back you realize that Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment are 2 sides of the same coin. Kind of a Yin and Yang situation. Frank N Furter and his crew kinda represents the unknown, Hedonism, Deviancy and Madness, pulling Brad and Janet into the darkness, while Farley Flavors and The rest of Denton kinda represent Stability, Normalcy, Sanity and like this kinda Conservative Ideal, but much like the TV Studio the entire movie takes place in (a clever solution to getting around a strike that was coming up) this perceived perfection is all artificial and is merely a facade hiding, corruption, Commercialism, Greed and Even some Deviancy and Madness. It’s quite Fascinating.

I couldn’t agree with either of you more.

@@willku9000 that's actually an impressive observation, almost like the worst of both worlds. Rocky horror shows the nightmare it is to Brad and Janet being shown this world so different from what they're used to, but on the other hand, shock treatment is exactly what they should be used to but it turns into it's own nightmare of it's own.

One of my favorite parts of this song is how awkward Brad’s delivery is when he sings “would you help me to face, life more” and “Ohhh—trash can” like he’s just improvising all of this not knowing what object or silly rhyme is coming up next😂

@sohatyi

The palpable confusion on his face is brilliant.

@VinluvAntonHandesbukia

It adds to the face that they're being embarrassed live on TV infront of their whole hometown.

@rogue7723

It's like a song from Who's Line Is It Anyway.
