Stood Up
Rick Nelson Lyrics
Well, I've been waitin' ever since eight
I guess my baby's got another date
Stood up, brokenhearted again
I'll bet she's out havin' a ball
Not even thinkin' of me at all
Stood up, brokenhearted again
Well, I know just what I ought to do
I ought to find me somebody new
But baby I couldn't forget about you
Stood up, brokenhearted again
Why must I always be the one
left behind never havin' any fun
Stood up, brokenhearted again
But I guess I'll go on bein' a fool
Sittin' a round just waitin' for you
Stood up, brokenhearted again
Well, I know just what I ought to do
I ought to find me somebody new
But baby I couldn't forget about you
Stood up, brokenhearted again

Well, I've been waitin' ever since eight
Guess my baby's got another date
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
I'll bet she's out havin' a ball
Not even thinkin' of me at all
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
Well, I know just what I oughta do
I oughta find somebody new
But, baby, I couldn't forget about you
Stood up, broken-hearted, again...........
Why must I always be the one
Left behind never havin' any fun?
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
But I guess I'll go on bein' a fool
Sittin' around just waitin' for you
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
Well, I know just what I oughta do
I oughta find somebody new
But, baby, I couldn't forget about you
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
Stood up, broken-hearted, again
Stood up, broken-hearted, again..!..

On this day in 1957 {December 29th} "Stood Up"* by Ricky Nelson peaked at #2 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's 'Best-Sellers In Stores' chart, for the three weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "At The Hop" by Danny and the Juniors...
"Stood Up" reached #8 on Billboard's Best-Selling Country and Western Records In Stores chart...
Between 1957 and 1973 he had fifty-three records on the Top 100 chart, nineteen made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Poor Little Fool" for 2 weeks in 1958 and "Travelin' Man" for 2 weeks in 1961...
Sadly, Eric Hilliard Nelson passed away at the young age of 45 on December 31st, 1985...
May he R.I.P.
* "Stood Up" was Ricky Nelson's second of two of his records to peak at #2, his other #2 record was "A Teenager's Romance" for one weeks earlier in 1957...
And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the Best-Sellers In Stores' Top 10 on December 29th, 1957:
At #3. "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis
#4. "April Love" by Pat Boone
#5. "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly
#6. "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis Presley
#7. "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms

Don't be fooled by those TV-friendly good looks, Ricky Nelson can really sing rock and roll, not just exploit it. Here he performs one of the most pissed off rockabilly records in history, going just as hard as any of those cats on the Sun label. I still think his career is among the bravest in rock and roll history.

Correct on all counts.

Ricky Nelson was a cut above the likes of Bobby Vee, Bobby Rydall,
Bobby Vinton, Fabian, etc with this brilliant track.
Backed by James Burton on guitar, he couldn't fail. At the height of
his powers, he was a class act.
He also starred in "Rio Bravo"! Need I say anymore?
