Perfect Time
Ride Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Another stupid day
I'm confused and I can't explain
Why I'm having to run away
And find a new place to stay

And now I'm not so sure
If I've felt so low before
Why do I still want more?
'Cause you're killing me to the core

I thought I was in line
And happiness was mine

I was sure that I had found
Found my perfect time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Perfect Time" by Ride depict the feeling of confusion and disillusionment, and the singer's search for a new beginning. The opening line "Another stupid day" sets the tone for the song, suggesting that the singer is frustrated and unhappy with their current situation. The line "I'm confused and I can't explain" further emphasizes their sense of bewilderment and inability to articulate their feelings.

The lyrics go on to describe the singer's desire to "run away" and find a new place to stay. This suggests that they feel trapped and unfulfilled in their current environment and need to escape to find happiness. The line "And now I'm not so sure" suggests that the singer is questioning their choices and unsure of what they really want out of life. The chorus "Why do I still want more? 'Cause you're killing me to the core" highlights their inner turmoil and the struggle to find contentment in life.

The second verse describes the character's previous belief that they had found happiness, but their current state of mind contradicts this. The lines "I thought I was in line and happiness was mine, I was sure that I had found, Found my perfect time" reflect the character's previous sense of optimism and belief that they had reached a state of contentment. However, they are now questioning this and seem to realize that there is always room for improvement and that life is an ongoing journey of discovery.

Would you just listen to them! Are they/is he for real? They have to be computerised, right? Except, it was early 1990s and everyone played an actual physical instrument in those days. There wer no computers, trickery, bollockery. Just. Proper. Music. Man.
