The Coldest Shoulder
Ritual Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your insecurity is caressing me.
You need to bury your doubts, before you bury me.
All your senses are still focused on the pain.
Take a breath and believe.
You were hurt by my words like knees on gravel streets.
I was walking my way back into misery.
Cold shoulder, you give me shivers.
You build me up, you tear me down.
For what purpose I don't know, but I know I'm home.
Cold shoulder, you give me shivers.
In the song "The Coldest Shoulder" by Ritual, the lyrics present an emotional exchange between two individuals who are struggling with love and communication. The first line, "I see it in your eyes: One single blow could tear a hole into your heart," suggests that the singer is aware of the emotional vulnerability of the other person. The use of the word "blow" implies that one small action or word could cause significant damage to the other person's emotional state.
The second line, "Your insecurity is caressing me," reveals that the singer is feeling the impact of the other person's insecurities. The use of the word "caressing" suggests that the singer is experiencing the other person's emotions in a physical way. The third line, "You need to bury your doubts, before you bury me," is a plea for the other person to confront and deal with their own emotional issues so that it does not negatively impact the singer.
The following lines speak of the pain and hurt that both individuals have experienced in their relationship. The use of the metaphor "cold shoulder" implies that the other person is intentionally ignoring the singer, causing them to feel isolated and alone. Overall, the song portrays a sense of confusion and struggle in navigating the complexities of love and communication.
