1) American rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon (March 29, 1947 – October 18, 2022) grew up in Bethesda, M.D., a suburb of Washington D.C. Unlike many of his heroes, he had a relatively comfortable childhood. At a young age, after hearing Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel, he was inspired to choose R'n'R as his future career path, according to Wikipedia. In the mid-seventies Gordon was a part of the then-flourishing downtown NYC punk scene, fronting the CBGB regulars, Tuff Darts (who appear on an early CBGB live compilation album). After recording one album with the band ("All for the Love of Rock 'n' Roll) he parted ways with the band to work with such artists as Link Wray and Chris Spedding, both of whom share a love for early rock 'n' roll and rockabilly. Bruce Springsteen wrote the song, Fire, for Gordon and played piano on the studio version which also features the guitar-legend Link Wray.

Love You So

You don't like rockin' bands
You just wanna go to a movie show
And sit there holdin' hands
You're so square
Baby, I don't care
Or drivin' late at night
You just wanna park where it's nice and dark
You just wanna hold me tight
You're so square
Baby, I don't care
You don't know any dance steps
That are new
But no one else could love me
Like you do, do, do, do
I don't know why my heart flips
I only know it does
I wonder why I love you, baby
I guess it's just because
You're so square
Baby, I don't care
Baby, I don't care
Baby, I don't care
Baby, I don't care
I don't know why my heart flips
I only know it does
I wonder why I love you, baby
I guess it's just because
You're so square
Baby, I don't care
Baby, I don't care
Baby, I don't care, care, care, care
I don't care, care, care, care
The song "Baby I Don't Care" by Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding depicts the singer's affection for his lover despite their differences. In the first verse, he describes how his lover is not fond of the music he likes and prefers watching movies while holding hands. In the second verse, he highlights how his lover is not into driving at night and prefers parking in dark areas to be close to him. The chorus emphasizes that despite his lover's unusual preferences, he loves her just the way she is. The singer finds his lover's quirks endearing and is willing to look past them to be with her because of the intense love he feels towards her.
The lyrics also explore the theme of individuality and how we all have our quirks and preferences that make us unique. The singer acknowledges his lover's unconventional nature and celebrates it rather than trying to change her. This perspective highlights the importance of accepting and appreciating people for who they are, even if they may seem different or unusual.
