Farol
Roberto Goyeneche Lyrics

las cosas que ahora se ven
farol...
ya no es lo mismo que ayer...
La sombra
hoy se escapa a tu mirada
y me deja más tristona
la mitad de mi cortada;
Farol...
The lyrics of Roberto Goyeneche's song "Farol" depict a sense of nostalgia and despair for the changing times. The word "farol," which means "streetlamp" in Spanish, is used as a metaphor for the things that used to be bright and shining but have now faded away. The first stanza talks about how things are not the same as they used to be, and the streetlamp is no longer as vibrant as it was before. The singer is saddened by the fact that the light of the streetlamp, which once illuminated his surroundings, is now fading away.
The second stanza illustrates the beauty and the poetry of the surroundings. The sky converses with the dreams of the workers, and the wind murmurs the popular poems of Carriego. The mention of the time, "las dos de la mañana" (two in the morning), creates a sense of tranquility and a time of reflection. The farol, which is the only source of light in the dark, puts the city to sleep. The repetition of the word "farol" reinforces the idea that the streetlamp is the anchor of the nightly environment, and without it, the night is incomplete.
In summary, the lyrics of "Farol" depict a sense of lament for a changing world where the things that were once bright have now faded away. It portrays the farol, the streetlamp, as the only source of light in the darkness and an anchor in the nightly environment.
