Stewart's music career began in 1962 when he took up busking with a harmonica. In 1963, he joined The Dimensions as a harmonica player and vocalist. In 1964, Stewart joined Long John Baldry and the All Stars before moving to the Jeff Beck Group in 1967. Joining Faces in 1969, he also maintained a solo career releasing his debut album that year. Stewart's early albums were a fusion of rock, folk music, soul music, and R&B. His third album, 1971's Every Picture Tells a Story, was his breakthrough, topping the charts in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, as did its ballad "Maggie May". His 1972 follow-up album, Never a Dull Moment, also reached number one in the UK and Australia, while going top three in the US and Canada. Its single, "You Wear It Well", topped the chart in the UK and was a moderate hit elsewhere.
After Stewart had a handful more UK top ten hits, the Faces broke up in 1975. Stewart's next few hit singles were ballads with "Sailing", off the 1975 UK and Australian number-one album, Atlantic Crossing, becoming a hit in the UK and the Netherlands (number one), Germany (number four) and other countries, but barely charting in North America. A Night on the Town (1976), his fifth straight chart-topper in the UK, began a three-album run of going number one or top three in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia with each release. That album's "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" spent almost two months at number one in the US and Canada, and made the top five in other countries. Foot Loose & Fancy Free (1977) contained the hit "You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" as well as the rocker "Hot Legs". Blondes Have More Fun (1978) and its disco-tinged "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" both went to number one in Canada, Australia and the US, with "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" also hitting number one in the UK and the top ten in other countries. Stewart's albums regularly hit the upper rungs of the charts in the Netherlands throughout the 70s and in Sweden from 1975 onward.
After a disco and new wave period in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Stewart's music turned to a soft rock/middle-of-the-road style, with most of his albums reaching the top ten in the UK, Germany and Sweden, but faring less well in the US. The single "Rhythm of My Heart" was a top five hit in the UK, US and other countries, with its source album, 1991's Vagabond Heart, becoming, at number ten in the US and number two in the UK, his highest-charting album in a decade. In 1993, he collaborated with Bryan Adams and Sting on the power ballad "All for Love", which went to number one in many countries. In the early 2000s, he released a series of successful albums interpreting the Great American Songbook.
In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him the 17th most successful artist on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists". A Grammy and Brit Award recipient, he was voted at No. 33 in Q Magazine's list of the Top 100 Greatest Singers of all time. As a solo artist, Stewart was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and he was inducted a second time into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Faces.

Charlie Parker Loves Me
Rod Stewart Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This road moves like a, a river to me
Sun goes down on Wisdom Street
Break the glass and throw away the key
Somewhere out where the fates collide (collide)
Cigarettes and candlelight
I sit here in the lone cafe
So stripped away
Ah, huh:
Huh:huh
Oh, ah, oh, ah
Everybody knows
I'm your street corner Romeo
Everybody knows
You're my Juliet in rags
And Charlie Parker loves me
Sit with me forever more
Is the draft too cold when they open door
Seem to me whenever you're drunk
And we'll drift away, drift away (drift away)
Ah, huh:
Huh:huh
Oh, ah, oh, ah
Everybody knows (everybody)
I'm your street corner Romeo (oh, yeah)
Everybody knows
You're my Juliet in rags
And Charlie Parker loves me (ooh:)
I feel your heart beat underneath my skin
Like a New Orleans night
But the rain can't get in
So red-hot dig the beat up underneath a cool, cool night
And the glass moonlight of spring
Everybody knows (ooh:)
I'm your street corner Romeo (oh, yeah)
Everybody knows (know, yeah)
You're my Juliet in rags
Everybody knows (everybody knows)
I'm your street corner Romeo, yes, I am
(Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Everybody knows (yeah)
You're my Juliet in rags
And Charlie Parker loves me (ooh:)
Everybody knows
(I'm listenin' to ya, Charlie)
I'm your street corner Romeo
(Bird is fly high tonight)
Everybody knows
Everybody knows
Charlie Parker loves me
Everybody knows [yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
(Fly away, Charlie)
I'm your street corner Romeo-aca
The lyrics of Rod Stewart's song Charlie Parker Loves Me paint a picture of two lovers on the streets of a city at night. The singer describes the street as a river, and the atmosphere is silent like a willow tree. The sun goes down on Wisdom Street, and the singer breaks the glass and throws away the key. The lovers are somewhere out where the fates collide, enjoying cigarettes and candlelight while sitting in a lone cafe. They are stripped away from the rest of the world and lost in their own passion. The singer acknowledges that he is the street corner Romeo, and his lover is his Juliet in rags. In the backdrop of their love story, Charlie Parker, a renowned saxophonist, loves the singer, adding to the allure of the scene.
The lyrics of the song paint a vivid picture of the love story, but the themes in the song are somewhat darker. Throughout the song, there is a sense of danger, and the lovers seem to live on the edge, always on the verge of getting caught or being hurt. The glass that the singer breaks is symbolic of danger and recklessness. The images of cigarettes and candlelight add to the sense of danger and suggest that the two are not entirely safe. The idea of being stripped away from the world suggests that the lovers are not entirely comfortable in their environment and are seeking refuge in each other. Overall, the song is a portrayal of love that exists on the fringes of society.

I have listened to this song hundreds of times, and every time I walk away from it💥 I get a different interpretation of what this song is about. Today I'm going to tell you what I think it's about⭐ people overall. As Rod is singing this song about throwing away the key to success and entering a tavern,/ rundown bar that he's very familiar with. Everybody seems to know who he is🕊️. Maybe that's what Charlie Parker was , aka the bird . A man who really didn't fit in anywhere because he died in 1955 when there was still segregation going on. However, he had a tremendous talent with the saxophone and his musical talent far exceeded anyone else of that generation ⭐. The only thing I can think of is that we have winners and we have losers in this world 🌍⭐ The gentleman they're talking about in the song is a man who just never reached his goal, and so after giving up he settling for very little. I would also say that the gentleman in the song somehow plays music, otherwise, how would he know who Charlie Parker was? . So when the beated down man goes into that bar he's a Romeo to a women and that makes him feel great. After he has a few shots he then approaches a woman who knows him quite well and they get so high on booze and drugs just like Charlie Parker did. So as they begin to get so wasted They no longer see reality they imagine themselves flying away, Just like in the song Rod sings fly away. Charlie fly away because his nickname was the bird. He wasn't flying in the air. He was flying high on heroine😔. These people are living just for the moment. I would really like to know the real meaning behind the song but I'll admit the fact that's its very addictive and I will continue to listen to it because it always draws me back to listening to it. 💯💯 2:17 2:39
