Hodgson is widely regarded as a gifted composer and lyricist. He is the singer/songwriter of such globally successful and enduring anthems as ""The Logical Song" "Breakfast in America" "Give a Little Bit" "Take the Long Way Home" "Dreamer" "It’s Raining Again" "School", "Fool’s Overture" and many more timeless songs that helped his former band sell well over 60 million albums to date.
For many fans, Hodgson was the spiritual force behind Supertramp for the 14 years prior to his departure in 1983. While he and the other co-founder, Rick Davies, shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately.
His most recent solo album, Open the Door, was released in 2000.
His most recent tour was in 2019.

Love Is A Thousand Times
Roger Hodgson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Well if you want to be a soldier go marching off to war
You think you're going to be a hero but we've heard it all before, boy
Love, love is a thousand times dearer than me, dearer than you'
Well if you want to be a leader, Then go and lead the way
You're never going to give us freedom no matter what you say, boy'
I said it'd better come soon...'
La-La-La
'Cause love-love is the way
If only we all could hear, It just seems so clear
I just can't believe watching the world what am I seeing?
But I know there's a way, oh there must be a way
Oh there must come day - come a time when I can be free...
'Cause I want to hear her voice, softer than me, softer than you
Whatever will it take me to bring her smile my way
'Cause every time I try to please her, she loves to go in hiding
I said she'd better come soon...'
The song "Love Is a Thousand Times" by Roger Hodgson is a passionate plea for love and unity over war and power struggles. The opening lines "Love, love is a thousand times stronger than me, stronger than you" establish the central theme of the song - that love is a force greater and more powerful than human conflicts.
The lyrics then address the idea of war and the false promises of glory and heroism that it presents. The lines "Well if you want to be a soldier go marching off to war / You think you're going to be a hero but we've heard it all before, boy" depict war as a futile and destructive exercise that only leads to more suffering.
The song then shifts its focus to the idea of leadership and the false promises of freedom that it presents. The lines "Well if you want to be a leader, Then go and lead the way / You're never going to give us freedom no matter what you say, boy" suggest that leaders often manipulate and deceive people with their empty promises of freedom.
Finally, the song concludes with a plea for love to prevail over these conflicts. The lines "'Cause love-love is the way / If only we all could hear, It just seems so clear" suggest that love is the solution to all problems and that if people could only embrace it, the world would be a better place.
