Obsession
Roger Shah Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I know when I was breaking you turn, leave and run
Now I can not understand what we have become
Obsession rules your mind now
Obsession rules your mind now
I know I know you've got desire
I know I know obsession is your power
I know I know you've got desire
I know I know obsession is your power
So now the door is frozen you can't get back in
Turn my back I've had enough
We start out again
Now I can not understand what you have become
Obsession rules your mind now
Obsession rules your mind now
Obsession…
The lyrics of Roger Shah's song "Obsession" portray a relationship that has gone awry. The singer of the song is plagued with regret and wonder as they struggle to comprehend the changes that have occurred between them and their partner. The opening lines, "Lie awake thinking the things you should've done, I know when I was breaking you turn, leave and run," suggest that there were instances where the singer acted in a manner that caused their partner to retreat from them. Now, they cannot make sense of the situation and feel that their partner's mind is consumed by obsession.
The repeated phrase "Obsession rules your mind now" throughout the song highlights the hold that obsession can have over someone's thoughts and actions. The lyrics also suggest that the partner may be driven by desire and that their obsession is their power. However, the singer seems to have reached a breaking point, as they sing "Turn my back I've had enough, we start out again." The final lines of the song, which merely repeat the word "Obsession," suggest that the partner's obsession continues to rule their mind, and the relationship may not recover.
