Child Of The Moon
Rolling Stones - The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The wind blows, rain into my face
The sun glows at the end of the highway
Child of the moon, rub your rainy eyes
Oh, child of the moon
Give me a wide-awake crescent-shaped smile

She shivers, by the light she is hidden
She flickers like a lamp lady vision
Child of the moon, rub your rainy eyes
Child of the moon
Give me a wide-awake crescent-shaped smile

The first car on the foggy road riding
The last star for my lady is pining
Oh, child of the moon, bid the sun arise
Oh, child of the moon

Give me a misty day, pearly gray, silver, silky faced
Wide-awake crescent-shaped smile

Overall Meaning

The Rolling Stones' Child of the Moon is a psychedelic piece that captures the essence of the 1960s counterculture movement. The haunting melody is a hallmark of the band's sound, with Mick Jagger's vocals leading the way in this song. The song is full of imagery, and the lyrics set the scene for a journey that is both melancholy and otherworldly.

The opening lines, "The wind blows, rain into my face, the sun glows at the end of the highway" sets the scene for a traveler who is caught in a storm but has hope that the sun will come out. The lyrics continue to describe a person who is connected to the moon and nature, asking the "child of the moon" to "rub your rainy eyes" and give a "wide-awake crescent-shaped smile." The image of the crescent-shaped smile is an evocative symbol of the song's meaning.

The second verse describes a woman who flickers like a vision and is hidden by the light. The imagery is mysterious and poetic, and suggests a supernatural quality to the woman's beauty. The final verse depicts a lonely car on a foggy road, and the hope that the sun will rise again. The song's overall tone is one of melancholy, but there is also a sense of wonder and awe at the beauty of the natural world.

Shot on May 11th of '68 in Epping Forest outside of London, this short film features Dame Eileen Atkins. Brian had wandered off into the forest and couldn't be found at the time of shooting, which is why you only see 4 of the Stones. Brian's cameo from behind a tree was shot separately. Atkins got paid 50 quid for an afternoon's work.

Sylvia Coleridge is the old lady. Later she did a Doctor Who six-parter and Tom Baker was so impressed by her that he wanted her to join the regular cast.

Can you still score some of the LSD they took when they made this video?

Great song, boring video

@carloslima6705

Anyone will think it was because they already wanted to get rid of Brian.
