Living through fantasy
Things aren't always as they seem
A broken mind is never free
Fever dream and nightmare too
Waking up feeling askew
Her voice is coming closer, near
Instilling further dread and fear
Wasted by decision haste
You'll never be the better one
With choices you thought were fun
Undone she lies broken down
You've painted her like a clown
The tipping point is ever near
A sinking ship you've left to steer
Steer away from here
You are lost
Now that I'm on the other side
We don't need to wait no more
It don't need to hide again
Everything will be alright
Even with our caving in
I think that I've lost my mind
Maybe you a little too
Both of us are crazy
But it's something to do
Steer away from here
You are lost
Now that
I'm on the other side
Wonder
Make it
Today
Easy
Lost in time and
Stuck in space
Do you know the way back home?
Don't sail away if you can't see the water
Don't call it land unless you're shore (sure)
It may seems so counterintuitive
But you're the one that's lost at sea
Just call out if you need an anchor point
Don't drown while trying to stay afloat
The lyrics of Ron S. Peno and The Superstitions's song "The Other Side" are filled with deep emotional and spiritual connotations. The song echoes the idea of hope beyond despair, light at the end of the tunnel, and finding one's place in the world. The beginning of the song narrates how the singer's life changed when they met someone, who made their world spin and wait on the other side of town. They had been searching in silence, haunted by what was missing on the other side, and it was only when they found the person that they began to feel truly alive.
The song further explores the themes of uncertainties and losses that the singer faced. They were living in a constant state of confusion until they found their heaven on the other side of hell. As much as they longed for clarity, they were afraid of getting their signals crossed, which might further complicate their existence. In a way, the person they met gave them a sense of direction and purpose, making everything uncertain feel certain. The lyrics also suggest that the person was also searching for the singer, praying for them on the other side of town. The song ends with the singer's questioning if there would be milk and honey flowing on the other side, alluding to the promised land where everything would be alright.
