No Other Love
Ronnie Hilton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

No other love have I
Only my love for you
Only the dream we knew
No other love

Watching the night go by
Wishing that you could be
Watching the night with me
Into the night I cry
Hurry home, come home to me
Set me free
Free from doubt and free from longing

Into your arms I'll fly
Locked in your arms I'll stay
Waiting to hear you say
No other love have I
No other love

(Into the night I cry)
Hurry home, come home to me
Set me free
Free from doubt and free from longing

Into your arms I'll fly
Locked in your arms I'll stay
Waiting to hear you say
No other love have I

No other love

(No other love)
No other love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ronnie Hilton's song "No Other Love" express the singer's faithful dedication and love for a significant other. The first two lines of the song, "No other love have I, only my love for you", sets the tone for the rest of the song as the singer impresses upon his lover that he has no interest in another love. The lines "Only the dream we knew, no other love", depict how the singer is content in their relationship together and their shared dreams.

As the song progresses, the singer expresses his longing for his significant other, hoping he can share his experiences with them, "Watching the night go by, wishing that you could be watching the night with me...into the night I cry, hurry home, come home to me, set me free". The lyrics suggest that the singer feels incomplete and yearns for their significant other to be with them, which would help the singer feel liberated from his thoughts and longings. Agreed!

In those days, most music was conducted in front a full orchestra. If there was even ONE mistake, they had to start all over again! Also, whereas "teenagers" bought rock-n-roll, civilised adults (who considered it degrading) bought music like this instead. Both types of music were awesome then, and still are today.

Oh, and I've checked the Official Charts Company's website. This wasn't #1 in July 1956; "I'll Be Home" by Pat Boone and "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" were, depending on the date in question.

On my song-rating guide:

No Other Love (work of pure genius): 7.7/10 ("Good")
Pretty Girls (computer-generated trash): 1.5/10 ("Unbearable")

That goes to show how some changes in those 59 years weren't for the better.
