Many of the lyrics are sketches of provincial everyday life: a young bird falling from its nest, a famous person in the village, a local funeral, scenes from the local pub or just waking up with a hangover.
Established in 1985, the band called themselves The Legendary Texas Four until Jack Poels joined as the new frontman. He joined on the condition that he wanted to add at least one song in the Limburg dialect to the band's repertoire. The other members agreed. Rowwen Hèze was born.
Rowwen Hèze translates loosely as 'Rough Hesen' and was the nickname of a notorious character from the village, Christiaan Hesen (1853-1947). Under this new name, the band started covering songs from Thin Lizzy. The band also wrote Dutch party songs for the annual carnival in the southern Netherlands.
The band saw two members leave in the early years. Mart Deckers (drums) and Geert Hermkes (accordeon) left the band. The line-up that was formed in 1991 is still intact today and has been unchanged for 29 years and counting.
- Jack Poels (lead singer, guitar)
- Tren van Enckevort (accordeon, piano, trombone)
- Jan Philipsen (bass)
- Theo Joosten (guitar, mandoline, tin whistle, percussion)
- Jack Haegens (trumpet, trombone, percussion)
The band's 1992 performance at Limburg's Pinkpop Festival was a breakthru moment. The band's set was shown live on Dutch television. At the time, the band had four studio albums under its belt: Rowwen Hèze (1987), Blieve loepe (1990), Boem (1991) and the live album, In de weiIn De Wei (1992). Their party anthem, Bestel mar (1992) hit #13 in the Dutch Top 40, still their highest charting single.
This pattern of three studio LPs and a live album repeated itself in the 1990s: Station America (1993), Zondag in het Zuiden (1995) and Water, lucht en liefde were followed by a 1999 live album entitled 't Beste van 2 werelden (1999), this time a recording of Rowwen Hèze semi-acoustic theatre incarnation.
The steady stream of albums continued in the 21st century.

Zien weej gebleve
Volgehalde, totdat ut neet mier ging
Verhale van vroeger, oaverdreve
En de klok, leep door naar 'n herinnering
We hebbe vroage weggeloate
Ow alde grapjes, teage beter wiete in
En niemand zag ut hoe de zon verdween
Dicht beej ien, leepe weej allien
En vulde weej metien
Boete waas de wind goan ligge
Toen woste weej vur altied is vurbeej
De kerk, ut koer, ut werk, pestoer
Straks, thoes, zuuj alles anders zien
D'r leet un kaart heer, dichtgevouwe
Ik zeej ow oege, 'n foto die verteld
Blieve geluuve, altied vertrouwe,
Nog hiel lang, nadat den oavend velt!
Dicht beej ien, leepe weej allien
En vulde weej metien
Boete waas de wind goan ligge
Toen woste weej vur altied is vurbeej
De kerk, ut koer, ut werk, pestoer
Straks, thoes, zuuj alles anders zien
Dicht beej ien, leepe weej allien
En vulde weej metien
Boete waas de wind goan ligge
Toen woste weej vur altied is vurbeej

The song "Vur Altied Is Vurbeej" by Rowwen Hèze speaks about the fleeting nature of life and how time passes by quickly. The lyrics begin by saying that until the end, the two of them stayed together and persisted, but ultimately, they had to face the reality that everything comes to an end. They reminisce about the stories from the past, now exaggerated, and reflect on how time flies so fast that even the clock seems to be running towards memories.
The chorus talks about how they choose not to ask questions, laugh to avoid speaking, and let the sunset quietly take them away. We can feel a sense of sadness that resonates within the person singing the song. They are trying to come to terms with the reality of life and how it changes over time. However, they do not want to lose the faith and trust they have in each other. The last part of the lyrics talks about a folded-up map and a photograph that speaks volumes about their memories together, which helps them keep their faith alive.
Overall, the song speaks about the inevitability of time, how it affects relationships, and how precious memories are vital to hold onto when everything seems to be changing.

Tot 't einde
Until the very end
Zien weej gebleve
We stayed
Volgehalde, totdat ut neet mier ging
We persevered until it became too much
Verhale van vroeger, oaverdreve
Exaggerated stories from the past
En de klok, leep door naar 'n herinnering
And the clock ticks towards a memory
We hebbe vroage weggeloate
We left questions unanswered
Ow alde grapjes, teage beter wiete in
Your old jokes, against our better judgment
We blieve lache, um neet te proate
We keep laughing, to avoid talking
En niemand zag ut hoe de zon verdween
And no one saw how the sun disappeared
Dicht beej ien, leepe weej allien
Close together, we walked alone
En vulde weej metien
And we filled the silence
Boete waas de wind goan ligge
Outside, the wind had calmed down
Toen woste weej vur altied is vurbeej
Then we knew that forever had passed
De kerk, ut koer, ut werk, pestoer
The church, the choir, the work, the pastor
Straks, thoes, zuuj alles anders zien
Soon, at home, everything will look different
D'r leet un kaart heer, dichtgevouwe
There is a folded card here
Ik zeej ow oege, 'n foto die verteld
I saw your eyes, a photo that tells a story
Blieve geluuve, altied vertrouwe,
Believe, always trust
Nog hiel lang, nadat den oavend velt!
Even long after nightfall!
Toen woste weej vur altied is vurbeej
Then we knew that forever had passed
De kerk, ut koer, ut werk, pestoer
The church, the choir, the work, the pastor
Straks, thoes, zuuj alles anders zien
