Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

Could It Happen To Me
Roxy Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To delight in your company
Could it happen to me
Do you know what I'm certain of?
I would love to fall in love
Could it happened to me?
Hey won't you look at me
My all-over trembling, I'm acting strange
And while you're out of reach, I never change
God knows I'm beside myself
If a tear's a crime, then I must confess
My guilty secret, I'm not ashamed
Take me as I am, an average man
Oh boy is it getting rough
When my old world charm isn't quite enough
I'd throw you cantos, I'd jazz 'em up
When I lay me down, you don't pick up
What's more, it's a crying shame
Only this time no one but myself to blame
All I touch turns to dust
It's right there in my cards, I ought to cut
Let us sing of the tortured heart
And a lonely soul in this world apart
As he plays a fear, takes a little pain
And move our separate ways again
Is it easy to say 'I do'?
At this moment I love you
See beyond me, it's true
Now that evening is closing in
Should I light that fire again?
Could it happen to me?
Did it happen to you?
The Roxy Music song "Could It Happen to Me" is a track that delves into a sense of vulnerability and honesty. The lyrics explore the idea of the fear of falling in love and the hope that it still might happen. The singer is confessing their innermost thoughts and feelings to their potential love interest, explaining how much it would mean to them if they could have a deeper connection. The lyrics also touch on the fear of rejection and the doubts that come with opening oneself up to love.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses their fear of not being enough, of not having what it takes to win over their love interest. The lines "All I touch turns to dust / It's right there in my cards, I ought to cut" exemplify this feeling of being unimportant, of not making a difference. And yet, the singer cannot help but fall deeper into their feelings, even if it means getting hurt.
The chorus asks the listener if they have ever experienced this same sense of longing and desire. "Could it happen to me? / Did it happen to you?" The lyrics are introspective and relatable, capturing the push and pull of emotions that come with falling in love.
